La Mano Roja emerged in the early 90s, in Santa Roja, a small and forgotten city in northern Mexico, close to the border. While the big cartels fought among themselves for the corridors of international trafficking, Santa Roja became a no man's land, abandoned by the government.

It was in this power vacuum that La Mano Roja was born.

The cartel began as a faction of ex-military and ex-police officers who revolted against low wages, internal corruption and the abandonment of the system. Men trained, armed, and thirsty for revenge. They organized themselves with military discipline, but with the coldness of criminals.

They infiltrated local sectors, killed their competitors, and quickly took over Santa Roja and other neighboring cities.

The name "La Mano Roja" came from their trademark: every time they executed an enemy, they left a handprint painted with blood on the spot.
