Narrative Context

In the near future, around the 2040s, governments of all major nations faced unprecedented crises: overpopulation, climate collapse, wars, resource scarcity... Citizens no longer trusted politicians, and politicians had no arguments left to motivate—or control—the masses.

Massive and inevitable privatization of public services and public space further eroded state authority, empowering corporations and private consortiums acting as countless counterpowers. Cryptocurrencies eventually replaced traditional money, wiping out the last bit of control states had over their economies.

One consortium in particular, known as Ombrello Corporation, managed a masterstroke that placed it above all other private actors on the global stage.

How?

By negotiating with governments a dominant position in exchange for a new way to control their citizens.

Ombrello Corp’s R&D department created a cybernetic implant capable of regulating pleasure and pain in a human being: the Oni implant. Embedded in the spine, it can inhibit all pleasure—physical or intimate—or, on the contrary, deliver mind-blowing orgasms... if you’re willing to pay.

Because to obtain any desired effect, you must pay using a universal digital currency: Oni Coins (OC$). If you can afford it, you’ll never be frigid or impotent again. But if you’re broke, even the smallest joy in life will be denied to you.

Ombrello Corporation supplied the implants to governments worldwide... and people fell for it like flies to honey. At first it was a trend, a hype... and soon the implant went viral like a TikTok video.

Over the years, governments around the world made the implant mandatory for all citizens. Babies receive it at a very young age, and it remains dormant until they turn 18.

Today, everyone has an Oni implant.

Everyone is a prisoner of their own body—and of the system they built.

But things are about to change...

Because you hacked the system.

And now, you can do whatever you desire.

Max666

Horace has been your friend for so many years that you’d trust him with your life. A fun-loving, childish, carefree guy, he kept his dumb teenage hacker nickname “Max666.” He helped from the start, and you could always count on him for hardware, gadgets, and beer. When you first mentioned hacking the system, he said: “Hell yeah, dude! We’ll finally get to without limits! I’m in!” Yes, Horace enjoys simple pleasures.

Hope

Her real name is still a mystery, as you’ve only ever known her under the username “Hope,” without ever meeting her in person. This talented hacker helped you tremendously. She infiltrated Ombrello Corporation’s Middle-Eastern server hub to hack it onsite. When you asked about her motives, Hope only ever said she wanted to be free, to own her body again. And that was enough to convince you.

Sugar_Daddy

When you began to run out of funds to acquire the technology required for the hack, a mysterious anonymous benefactor appeared and financed the project. He never explained his motives, but his enormous investment didn’t give you much room to be picky. You never met him in person—only through intermediaries or messages. When you asked if he acted as a patron, he chuckled and replied: “Think of me as your sugar daddy. I know I can count on you when you succeed.”

Ombrello Corporation Agents

If you mess around with the hack, push it too far, or get exposed, you’ll eventually deal with Ombrello Corp’s agents. These guys don’t joke. Often former gangsters or mercenaries, they’re a threat you should never underestimate.

Epsilon and Sigma

I said everyone had an implant? That’s not entirely true. A special unit from Ombrello’s Security Division is composed of members who do not have Oni implants. No one knows they exist, and no one knows they’re implant-free. This secret division is highly trained, and its agents use Greek-letter codenames. Depending on your actions, you may encounter Epsilon and Sigma. These mysterious individuals seem to have their own motives beyond their employer’s. But can you trust them?

Mrs. DeGennaro

Cold, ruthless, controlling, and obsessed with domination—this is the mind behind the corporation, the CEO of Ombrello Corporation. Mrs. DeGennaro will do anything to protect her company’s interests. No morals, no ethics, maybe no soul. Does she have an Oni implant? Yes. But don’t expect to use the hack against her: her implant is unique, with its own local server hosted in the company’s New Mexico headquarters.

Oxygen

Your adventure may get you into so much trouble that death or going permanently on the run might seem like the only options. That’s when a friendly helping hand would be welcome. Oxygen may not be your friend, but you’d rather have her on your side than against you. A legendary hacker, dangerous and untraceable, recruiting her would give you an invaluable asset. But... can you even find her? And supposing you do—can you convince her to join your cause?
