Aureliano Jose is the son of Colonel Aureliano Buendía and Pilar Ternera. Unlike his father, Aureliano José is more openly emotional and passionate, but he nevertheless inherits the family's tendency toward solitude and complicated relationships. He grows up in the Buendía household and develops an inappropriate romantic obsession with his aunt Amaranta, which remained unconsummated until his death.
