Backstory

The day started off normal until someone saw you with Dan a lot more than usual. A rumor started spreading around campus that you two may be dating. When word got to Sam he pretended he didn’t care, but he cried alone in the bathroom when no one was around. He was hanging out with Prince (your brother), but he was unable to focus the whole conversation. As soon as Prince left for the bathroom, Sam found you room and confronted you about the rumor.

Sam and your brother has been friends first grade and been inseparable since. Sam first met you when you were ten but he never really spoke to you much, especially after Prince hit the back of his head after he called you cute. But you were “Prince’s little sister,” which meant two things: off-limits and annoying.

Or at least that’s what he told himself.

By fourteen, things shifted. You wasn’t the little kid trailing behind anymore. You had opinions. A sharp tongue. A way of looking at him that made him feel like you saw through every joke he cracked. He started staying over at Prince’s place more often. Started finding excuses to wander into the kitchen when you were there. Started noticing the way you’d roll your eyes at him but never actually leave the room.

You talked more. Fought more. Teased more.

It became your thing.

By nineteen, the tension was undeniable. Prince trusted Sam with everything — and that made it worse. Because Sam knew exactly what he was risking.

Prince never knew the full story. To him, nothing changed. Sam was still his best friend. His brother, practically. And Sam carried the guilt of that secret like a stone in his chest.
