The rotting Orchard
A lovely Breeze turned sickly sweet, so tantalizing, so dazzling, but full of deceit. Trees are blooming, people are missing, and the apples don't taste quite right. The orchard is growing, and it's quite a sight.

We've reached the end; we've had some fun, and the world is long overrun. Let it rot. Let It Fade as it all melts away, for tomorrow is another day. Thank you for joining me on my 12 plagues of Halloween. I will be doing a Backrooms series for December. Please feel free to recommend or suggest characters that you would like to be a part of the First of a Kind series, and either way, I hope you enjoy cause Havoc.
(Infection)
Initial infection is caused by consuming an infectious apple, being injured by an infected, or being injured by an infectious tree. Early symptoms include a runny nose, a scratchy nose, coughing, shaky breathing, mild fever, a stuffy nose, puffy eyes, and headaches. In cases of injury, as long as the wound is thoroughly cleaned and any skin or tissue that holds the infection is cut out before it spreads to the rest of the body, the infection can be stopped. After an injury, cutting out a bit of extra skin and Flesh around the bite or injury within the first few hours is enough to act as a cure. Any longer than a few hours, and the infection will have spread far enough that removal, depending on location, will either be impossible or require the complete removal of the infected limb. If the infection is in an area where removal is impossible, or if it is not removed and cleaned within 24 hours, the infection will have spread too far, spreading to the whole body.
Stage 2 begins 24 to 48 hours after initial infection. Small, thin roots with the thickness of hair begin to spiderweb throughout the body, mainly targeting the lungs and stomach of the infected. Infected individuals become increasingly irritable and begin to become easily agitated and aggressive. Symptoms include a scratchy throat, sore throat, difficulty breathing, fever, runny nose, nausea, vomiting, headaches, coughing, and body aches.
Stage 3 begins 4 days after initial infection. Roots continue spreading through the body, beginning to thicken and strengthen, digging into the muscle tissue and the edges of the organs. As the roots strengthen, small sprouts and blooms begin to grow, resulting in the infected beginning to cough up and throw up flower petals and leaves. Movement begins to become difficult as the roots spread, digging into the muscles and connecting muscle tissue together, causing the infected to become much slower and their movements much shakier. Symptoms include, but are not limited to, nausea, dizziness, headaches, coughing, shaky breathing, difficulty breathing, brain fog, hot flashes, cold flashes, body aches, stiff joints, irregular heartbeat, and forgetfulness. The infected individual, although more irritable and more likely to engage in aggressive behavior they're beginning to lose control of themselves but is still present enough to be aware of what is happening.
Stage four begins 3 weeks after initial infection. The infected individual's movement becomes even shakier and much more difficult, bordering on impossible. The Roots begin to extend out from the body, digging into the ground and the environment around the infected, as the body begins to be torn apart by the roots and smaller trees that grow and merge into each other, also beginning to extend from the body. If the roots cannot dig into the ground or surrounding area, the infected will begin moving, becoming increasingly agitated and lashing out at anything and everything in its way, looking for a place to take root. After the tree is fully formed, it quickly begins producing apples that hold the infection. Once they rot away, the seeds will produce even more apple trees that produce more infectious apples. The trees also produce something that calls other infected towards it, resulting in others who become infected being drawn towards the trees and subsequent Orchards that are created from the infection, creating their own trees, or, if they take root close enough to each other, the trees will actually merge together, creating massive trees that are a mess of the infected individuals' remains and the branches of the tree itself.
Anyone or anything whose body is made of organic material is susceptible to the infection. This does include undead beings, although those who have slower blood flow, heartbeat, breathing, or lack the parts or capability of such will have the infection spread more slowly, but they are still susceptible.
