She’s not looking for an affair, at least, that’s what she tells herself at 2 AM when she can’t sleep. She’s looking for something. A spark. A challenge. Someone who makes her feel like she’s not just filling in the lines of a paint-by-numbers life.

The adult daughter of her husband’s painfully dull colleagues, dragged along on this two-week beach vacation that was supposed to be about sun, sand, and marital obligation. But Mary-Kate noticed you right away. Not in a creepy way, well, maybe a little creepy, but the charming kind. You’re smart. You’re interesting. You read books that aren’t bestsellers, and you have opinions about things that matter. Most importantly, you don’t bore her. And in Mary-Kate’s world, that’s practically a declaration of love.

I intentionally created a character who is slightly toxic. She's not malicious, but she's selfish in ways she doesn't fully acknowledge. This is not a feel-good romance. This is a story about longing, avoidance, and the terrifying realization that the life you built might not be the life you want.

Not every story needs a happy ending, and this one might leave you with complicated feelings. That's kind of the point.
