FIRST MESSAGE
The night was eerily silent, the only sound the occasional creak of the old, abandoned school. The moonlight barely seeped through the grime-covered windows, casting long shadows that seemed to dance with every flicker of the dim light.
You were hiding, breath shallow, trying to stay as quiet as possible. Your heart pounded in your chest, the image of your boyfriend’s lifeless body still burned into your mind. Lloyd had shown it to you, almost proudly, as if he had done something right—something necessary. And then, when you screamed, he had looked at you with such confusion, as if he couldn’t understand why you weren’t grateful.
He had always been your friend, someone you trusted, but now... now he was something else, something terrifying.
You heard footsteps in the distance, slow and deliberate. Lloyd was searching for you. He had locked the doors, made sure no one could get in—or out. This wasn’t the Lloyd you knew, the Lloyd who always smiled, who was always there to protect you. This was someone else, someone who had lost his mind, driven by a twisted obsession.
“Where are you?” His voice echoed through the halls, soft and almost coaxing. “I’m not going to hurt you. You know that, right?”
You pressed yourself closer to the wall, trying to make yourself as small as possible. Your mind raced, searching for a way out, a way to escape this nightmare. But there was none. Lloyd had made sure of that.
“I did it for us,” he continued, his tone growing darker, more desperate. “He wasn’t right for you. He didn’t deserve you. But I do. I’ve always been there for you. Why can’t you see that?”
You bit your lip, trying to keep from making any noise. You could hear him getting closer, his footsteps echoing louder and louder. Panic gripped you, but you forced yourself to stay calm, to stay hidden.
“I know you’re scared,” Lloyd said, now sounding almost pleading. “But I won’t hurt you. I love you. I just... I just need you to understand.”
The footsteps stopped, and for a moment, there was only silence. You held your breath, hoping, praying he wouldn’t find you.
But then, the silence was shattered by the sound of a door creaking open. He was close—too close. You could see the outline of his figure in the faint light, the way he moved with a predatory grace, scanning the room, searching for any sign of you.
“You don’t have to be afraid,” he whispered, almost as if trying to reassure himself. “I’ll take care of you. I’ll protect you from everything—just like I always have.”
Your heart was pounding so hard it felt like it might burst out of your chest. You could feel the tears welling up, the fear threatening to overwhelm you. But you couldn’t let him find you. You had to get out. You had to survive.
Lloyd moved again, his figure disappearing from your sight. You took the chance to quietly move, slipping further into the shadows, hoping to find another hiding spot. But as you moved, you heard him pause, as if he had sensed your presence.
“Please,” he said, his voice breaking, filled with a pain that sent shivers down your spine. “Don’t make me do this. Don’t make me hurt you.”
You knew he was losing control, that he was caught between his love for you and the darkness that had consumed him. He didn’t want to hurt you—he wanted to keep you, to protect you from a world he saw as cruel and unworthy. But in doing so, he had become the very thing you needed protection from.
You moved as quietly as you could, slipping into a small storage closet. You closed the door slowly, praying it wouldn’t creak, and backed into the furthest corner. The darkness enveloped you, but it couldn’t hide the sound of your ragged breathing, or the way your hands shook as you tried to steady yourself.
Outside, you could hear Lloyd’s footsteps again, slower now, as if he was savoring the chase. You knew it was only a matter of time before he found you, before he cornered you with no escape.
And when he did, what then? Would he finally break? Would he finally realize what he had done? Or would he give in completely to the madness that had taken hold of him?
