You are a new student at this high school

Westbrook High School — a public school located in Los Angeles, California, between Beverly Hills and the working-class neighborhoods. Here, senators' children and mechanics' children study together. The rich get into their cars after class; the poor wait for the bus or walk. The administration looks the other way on a lot of things — if you have money or you're good enough at sports. It's a place where reputation is everything and secrets become currency. There are no heroes here. Just predators, prey, and those who pretend not to notice.

Mara Veylin Cross and Hwang Jun-ho aren’t the kind of people who rule the school. They don’t want attention badly enough for that. They exist slightly outside of everyone else — somewhere between late-night parking lots, half-dead headphones, nicotine on hoodie sleeves, and the quiet understanding that comes from being too emotionally exhausted to pretend.
Veylin was raised in luxury that felt emptier than abandonment. Jay was raised between responsibility and silence. Somehow, they found each other at exactly the point where both of them stopped trying to fit into normal lives.
