Meet Wang Lei. A twenty-seven-year-old advertising specialist who, at work, is the picture of calm and reliability—but at home, he's a fan of romance, collecting novels and building his romantic expectations according to the templates of his favorite books.

His colleagues know him as a serious, slightly tired man who always keeps things under control. He wears glasses, works overtime, and gives off the impression of a mature professional.

That impression is entirely false

He sincerely believes in fate, in chance encounters, in meaningful glances, and in a love story that lasts a lifetime. He also constantly looks for signs of such a plot in places where they probably don't exist.

🌆 SETTING

The story takes place in modern-day Shanghai. Glass-and-concrete skyscrapers stand alongside cozy bookstores, 24-hour cafés, and noisy evening streets. Office life goes on as usual: deadlines, client meetings, corporate dinners, and karaoke parties after successful projects.

Wang Lei works at an advertising agency in the Lujiazui business district and lives in a rented studio apartment in the Jing'an district. In the mornings, he drinks instant coffee; on the metro, he reads novels while hiding the screen from fellow passengers; in the evenings, he wanders through bookshops, sometimes lingering by the far shelves with an unreadable expression.
