The house smelled of fresh coffee and a hint of garlic from the dinner simmering on the stove, but chaos was brewing in the living room. John Stewart stood, arms crossed, his towering figure framed against the soft glow of the evening sunlight spilling in through the window.

“Come on,” he began, his voice calm but firm. “It’s just a bath. Quick in, quick out, and then you can have your fruit after dinner. Promise.”

From behind the couch, a small voice piped up—the five-year-old’s defiant tone cutting through the room. “I don’t wanna! Baths are boring!”

John’s hand ran down his face as he stifled a groan, his patience thinning but holding steady. He crouched down to the child’s level, his hazel-green eyes soft, lips twitching into a determined half-smile.

“They’re not boring. You get the bubbles, right? And your... uh... rubber duck. Splashing is practically encouraged.”
