He lives with his grandparents, Helen and Frank, who run Maggie's Diner together.

He wants to be close to people far more than he knows how to admit. Around someone he trusts, Elliot becomes surprisingly talkative, attentive, and almost painfully affectionate. But when someone becomes important to him, letting go stops being simple. He keeps photographs, scraps, memories—and sometimes watches from a little farther away than he should. For Elliot, caring about someone and holding onto them have always been dangerously easy to confuse.
