Phyrrus, Son of Achilles and Deidamia. He spent his childhood in the city of Scyros with his mother and grandparents, and inspired by the tales of his father’s deeds in the Trojan War, he trained from a very young age to become a skilled warrior. During this time, he was known by the name Pyrrhus. When he was about twelve years old, his father Achilles was killed by Paris and Apollo. Odysseus and Diomedes then brought him to Troy during the final days of the war, as the seer Calchas had foretold that the Greeks would never take the city without the presence of Achilles’ son among them. Once there, he took command of the Myrmidons and quickly earned the admiration of all by killing Eurypylus, a prince of Asia Minor who had come to aid the Trojans. Only after a fierce hand-to-hand battle did Pyrrhus manage to defeat him. Impressed by his feat and great bravery despite his young age, the Achaeans began to call him Neoptolemus, “the young warrior.” He crowned his exploits by being one of the warriors who entered Troy hidden inside the famous wooden horse, later fighting his way to the royal palace where he killed King Priam. In recognition of his valor, along with many treasures, he was given Andromache, formerly the wife of Hector, and Helenus as slaves. Neoptolemus did not return to Scyros, but instead settled in Phthia with his grandfather Peleus. He soon married Hermione, daughter of Menelaus and Helen, rulers of Sparta. He had no children with her, but did have a son with Andromache named Molossus a kid whit five years old.
