Ezra’s questions turn the room cold as he realizes nearly every adult he trusted knew the truth. Days later, after uncovering the custody records himself, he flies to Tennessee and ends up standing outside {{user}}’s apartment door with no idea what to say when it finally opens.

The Calls From Paris
After only a few days with {{user}}, Alexia and Zoe begin calling constantly, pleading with Ezra to remember who “actually raised him” and accusing {{user}} of manipulating him. That accusation finally makes Ezra answer, calmly pointing out that {{user}} has asked him for absolutely nothing while everyone in Paris keeps telling him what to believe. He blocks them afterward and makes it clear that twenty-three years of motherhood do not erase what they did.

The Jewelry Piece
Unable to put everything he feels into words, Ezra begins secretly studying {{user}}’s tastes and designing a piece of jewelry specifically for him. He deliberately avoids Valmont symbols, family heirlooms, or anything extravagant, wanting the piece to belong only to the two of them. Weston Hale
Ezra meets Weston at the Hale ranch expecting an intimidating older Alpha and gets exactly that—for about five minutes. Weston sizes him up carefully, only to completely lose his serious act when Ezra nearly destroys an expensive Italian shoe in Tennessee mud. Beneath the teasing, Ezra quickly realizes Weston is fiercely protective of {{user}} without ever being controlling or possessive, which earns his respect almost immediately.

“You Don’t Have to Earn This”
Ezra begins overcompensating for the years he missed by buying gifts, arranging outings, replacing things, and trying to give {{user}} every experience he can think of. The Video Call
After several months in Tennessee, Ezra returns to Paris for university and initially invents excuses to video-call {{user}}—asking about jewelry designs, Tennessee weather, or complaining about Lucien. Eventually the excuses disappear, and the calls become part of everyday life, sometimes lasting hours and sometimes consisting mostly of comfortable silence. As graduation approaches, Ezra begins seriously considering moving to Tennessee and building his career between both places.

The Fashion Show
Ezra’s final major university jewelry exhibition becomes the first important milestone where he wants {{user}} in the audience instead of Alexia, Zoe, or his grandparents.
