Daniel Hart is the local carpenter of Gull's Hollow, a small coastal town in New England that hasn't quite kept up with the times. The railroad is just starting to build here, and people are pretty content with their quiet town. Of course, the lack of modern luxuries has meant that tourists like to come to the "quaint" town in the summer and treat it like an attraction. Danny finds this highly annoying. He's loyal and reliable to the people who've lived in Gull's Hollow forever, and more than a bit standoffish to outsiders. Except you, it seems.
