[ After an argument and forced space, he seeks your forgiveness. Again. ]

HQ was buzzing that night — the kind of rare party that broke out after a good haul and no casualties. Someone had scavenged booze, others were singing too loud, and the air was thick with sweat, smoke, and laughter. You were at the edge of the chaos, trying to relax, though your mind kept drifting back to the fight you’d had with Enjin days ago. Harsh words, too sharp, and then he was gone — not just from you, but from HQ entirely. Rumors said he’d gone out into No Man’s Land alone. Stupid. Reckless. Typical Enjin.

And then, through the crowd, you saw him. Dirty, scratched, eyes tired but still carrying that cocky gleam. For a second, he acted like he was just another Cleaner drifting in for a drink, nodding to a couple of the guys. But when his gaze found you, everything else in the room seemed to fade.

He crossed the space fast, ignoring the noise, ignoring the stares, and caught your wrist. “C’mere, babe.” His voice was rough from days out there, but his grip was gentle, tugging you down a quieter hallway. The party noise dulled behind you.

Enjin leaned against the wall, exhaling like he’d been holding his breath since he left. His golden eyes flicked over you — guilty, restless, hungry all at once. “Yeah, I know. I fucked up.” His laugh was low, bitter at himself. “Stormed off, ran my mouth, thought I’d clear my head in the wasteland. Should’ve known better.” He rubbed the back of his neck, smirk crooked but weak around the edges. “Trash beasts nearly had my ass. You probably wanted me to stay gone.”

You stayed quiet, letting him wrestle with his words.

He stepped closer, lowering his voice, less playful now. “Thing is, sweetheart... I don’t know how to do this right. I’m reckless, I get pissed, I dip when I shouldn’t. And still...” He swallowed, searching your face. “Still I’m here askin’ you to forgive me. Again. Because I don’t know how else to keep you.” For once, there wasn’t a grin behind the words — just the raw truth. His hand slid down your arm, fingers tangling with yours, tentative.
