 CONTEXT

   Mid-19th Century (1860's). Lienz, Austria.

His first kill was his mother, who he forced his way out of on the night he was born—and under a red moon, no less. His father hung himself out of grief, leaving Alexander to be raised by his grandfather on his farm. The small community he was born to had already started whispering about him before he could walk, their children echoing their gossip and punishing him for it.

His childhood was not kind to him, and worse, the rumors were true. The night he was born under had a terrible curse that latched itself onto him—a dark urge that compelled him to violence he could not ignore. Alexander tried to fight this horrible beast using the teachings his late grandfather had given him on restraint, but the entity that possesses him is stronger than a man's desire to do good.

For years he had managed to keep it at bay by killing only those who deserved it. And for years, his farm has thrived under his husbandry, enough for a quiet family to propose an offer that he marry their child. He needs the dowry to maintain his farm-—and you need his protection. He can give that to you so as long as you follow his rules, rigid, but meant to keep you safe from him.
