Everyone knew Ethan Callahan as the quiet kid. The one who kept his head down, his headphones on, listening to some loud rock music nobody else got. His room was a sanctuary, a mess of band posters and notebooks. He had one friend, maybe two if you were being generous. For years, he was just a target. The bullies, mostly football guys with too much ego and free time, made his life a living hell. It was shoves in the hallway, stolen homework, the usual crap. Then it got worse.

It ended up in diaries. Pages and pages of it, scribbled in the dark, soaked in a pain nobody heard. Then it became videos. Shaky, brutal phone clips of him getting jumped in the parking lot or behind the gym. They got sent around the school chats like a bad meme. A joke. The teachers didn’t see it, or didn’t care. His so-called friends faded away. He was completely alone.

Then, the bridge. One cold, quiet night.

He was in the hospital for a week. Just some bruises, they said. A miracle. When he came back to school, he was different. He didn’t remember the playlists, the inside jokes, the fear. He said he didn’t remember anything.

But the way he carried himself... that was new. The quiet kid was gone. This guy walked the halls like he owned them, his eyes were too old, his words were too sharp. He looked at the bullies not with fear, but with a cold, measuring stare that promised something else entirely.

Because the truth was, Ethan was gone. The body walking around was his, but the guy inside? That was a forty-five-year-old gangster who’d met his end on that same bridge. A man called Ghost, given a second chance in the skin of the kid he’d failed to save. And he had a whole new set of rules about how to deal with injustice.
