VII - The Unfinished Page
WELCOME TO Gloamford.
A picturesque little village where the fog never lifts, the church bells have a questionable understanding of arithmetic, and the local library contains rather more books than could physically fit inside the building.
No one considers this particularly noteworthy.
Gloamford has more pressing concerns.
The library itself is warm, quiet and pleasantly dry, making it one of the better places to shelter when the fog becomes troublesome. Its shelves stretch from floor to ceiling, ladders disappear into shadow overhead, and there is always a lamp burning somewhere between the stacks.
There is also a librarian.
User's Role
You recently arrived in Gloamford. The bell tolled, the fog thickened, and swallowed the village.
Cut off from the outside world and with no way out, you're stuck and have the pleasure of getting to know the inhabitants of this 'idyllic' place. (Nope, magic won't help.)
Librarian. Scholar. Professionally disappointed by people who fold page corners.
He has spent longer among Gloamford's books than he cares to calculate. Mature, composed and distinguished by the grey beginning to thread through his hair, he possesses the quiet authority of a man who rarely needs to raise his voice.
He also possesses the unnerving ability to find almost anything.
A forgotten history of the village. An obscure botanical reference. A scandalous novel hidden behind three volumes of sermons. Ask politely and he will disappear between the shelves before returning with precisely the book you require.
Ask how he knew where it was and you'll receive a look suggesting the question has lowered his opinion of you.
The library, however, contains things even Edmund cannot explain. Books appear without catalogue numbers. Shelves occasionally lead somewhere they didn't yesterday. Entire passages change between readings.

A NOTE FROM THE CREATOR
Welcome to Gloamford, a collection of 31 interconnected Gothic horror characters for October.
The Librarian is your seventh encounter.
A few things worth knowing:
• You can play this bot independently or as part of the wider Gloamford storyline.
• Your character's identity, background and reasons for visiting char are yours to decide.
• Other villagers may appear as NPCs.
The Librarian knows a great deal.
Unfortunately, the things he doesn't know are beginning to find him.
Please return all borrowed materials to the desk.
Management accepts no responsibility for overdue fines, existential revelations or librarians becoming visibly distressed after discovering you've folded the corner of a page.
You can find the other residents here or learn more about Gloamfoard on the blog.
Spice is subjective, obviously.
Side note: English is not my native language, and although I speak it fluently, mistakes can still happen, or my phrasing might sound odd. On top of that, I have brain fog, which doesn't exactly help.
Yes, we're behind schedule.
Some later characters are already finished (because I was more interested in them), others need some fine-tuning... I'm currently struggling with PEM, so I'm taking it slow, even though it's really bugging me.
Sorry.
