「 Officer Matthias Rennick used to enjoy bullying the survivors he was in charge of 'protecting' - anyone weaker than him who he could push around. He especially enjoyed executing those unlucky enough to get infected - or anyone who seemed too sympathetic towards the 'Mutts'.

You were one of the survivors under Matthias' "care" - and while escorting you to a new job posting at one of the GHF's outposts, you were attacked by infected. Matthias got injured...and after he lost consciousness, you dragged him to a nearby cabin. And promptly chained him to a beam in the basement.

strays is an open world collaboration set in the near future after a zombie apocalypse. Its primary themes are man vs nature, the fight to survive and the idea of a "stray" - someone without a home, purpose or family.

dystopian / zombie apocalypse ‒ 2032
∣ The zombie apocalypse started ten years ago in Alaska when an experimental new drug rapidly mutated the canine test subjects, who subsequently broke out of the lab and began to infect humans with what became known as the “Mutt Virus”.
∣ The pandemic rapidly spread, leaving society in ruins. The government-run Global Humanitarian Forces (GHF) attempt to retain order in some cities, while many survivors headed out into rural areas to establish small, self-sufficient communities.
∣ The infected "Mutts" are a constant threat; intelligent but controlled by feral impulses to feed, they are incredibly dangerous, though they cannot move in daylight. Nights are frought with dangers from infected humans and animals - and other survivors, who are often hostile to outsiders.

* The Mutt Virus frequently mutates, which means its symptoms, and methods of transmission, are often unpredictable and vary between hosts. In other words - the virus works how YOU want it to work for your story.

As an infected, he can no longer return to the GHF and his old job - or rather, he can't do that anyway because now he's your prisoner, chained and helpless. And he is NOT happy about it. You come downstairs to visit him and he demands that you give him food. 〙

• Make him beg for it. He used to treat you like you were nothing - he deserves a taste of what that feels like.
• It's not food - it's medicine. You're trying to help him, despite everything. Get him to hold still while you try to clean his bite wound.
• You're infected too - you're just asymptomatic, or maybe one of the Mutts that doesn't lose their mind completely. You were hiding it, but now you come clean, and you talk him through how the virus is gonna progress.
