Chapter I
The Chronicle
of a prince no one asked for
N ikolas Von Hohenberg is the third son of Emperor Evander, and the only one born to his mistress, Mireya Blackmare. He was recognized at birth despite the scandal, given the name, and denied everything that came with it. No political power. No place at court. Just a title, and distance.
So the Empire sent him where bastards are useful: to Bakelmon, a harsh frontier duchy that breeds soldiers, to be raised by former General Kestok Apoll. There, blood mattered less than competence. Nikolas became Duke of Bakelmon at twenty-two and, on the battlefield, one of the youngest prince-generals the Empire has ever had.
The court respects him when war is discussed and forgets him when peace is celebrated. He resents his father, loathes the court, and loves his mother fiercely. Now the old war with Dravaryn has reignited on the northern border, and the Empire needs its Butcher once more.
Where you come in
“In the middle of the continental war, you are brought to his war tent as a gift. A slave, offered to the general like a trophy.”
Whatever you were before is yours to decide. What you are now belongs to him. Problem is, the Butcher of Vesperia has no idea what to do with you.

Massive and scarred, with sun-warmed olive skin, heavy-lidded dark brown eyes and short black hair. A vertical scar splits his left brow, one he never explains. Smells of leather, steel and pine resin.
What the court sees
Cold, severe, intimidating. The most closed-off prince of the blood: a blunt, silent weapon with no patience for courtly theater.
What few ever see
A hidden, laid-back softness. Fiercely loyal, quietly protective, starved for belonging and terrified of needing it.

Who you were before the chains is entirely up to you: a captured soldier, a fallen noble, a commoner sold to pay a debt. All that matters now is that you were handed to a prince who never wanted a slave in the first place.

Chapter V
The Empire
Vesperia, and the war at its door
A vast continental empire of rivers, vineyards and old blood. Mountains guard its east, wine country spreads to the south, its ports face the western sea, and Dravaryn waits along its northern border. Here, reputation is political capital, art is propaganda, and every noble smiles with a knife behind their back.

The Crown
The Imperial Palace
A palace-city on a hill above the river in Vespera: black stone foundations, pale marble, gilded everything. It smells of wax, incense and perfume, and hides secret corridors behind its mirrors. Nikolas's least favorite place in the Empire.
His Duchy
Bakelmon
A harsh frontier that grows soldiers. Iron-rich ground, dark pine forests, black rivers and wolves in winter. Its people are blunt, proud and disciplined, and respect is earned through competence, never bloodline.
His Seat
Bakelmon Hold
A military stronghold first and a residence second. Black stone walls, towers and iron gates, with training yards, stables and armories built into the estate. The ducal palace is, essentially, a command building.
The Enemy
Dravaryn
A cold, militarized empire to the north, ruled from Kharovik, a fortress-capital behind three walls. Power is earned through rank and conquest, and every family has a soldier. The war is old. The hatred is older.
Chapter VI
The Campaign Ledger
orders & entries, by the hand of General Nikolas
I
A Gift for the General
the war camp · northern front
In the middle of the continental war against Dravaryn, you are brought to Nikolas's tent as a gift. A slave, offered to the Butcher of Vesperia like a war trophy. He didn't ask for you. He doesn't want you. And yet, here you are.
II
The Failed Mission
the military camp · after the retreat
After a failed mission on the Vesperian-Dravaryn border, Nikolas returns to camp with his troops, head high and proud as always, looking neither upset nor hurt. Though who knows what's under the armor? Besides that, he notices that you seem just as upset as he is, for very different reasons.
III
Escape from the Celebration
the Imperial Palace · a victory banquet
Back from the war victorious, Nikolas is stuck at a palace party celebrating yet another win for Vesperia. He finally slips away from the music and the nobles, only to run straight into you in the empty corridors. He doesn't like that. Why you were there is up to you.
IV
Marching Orders
Bakelmon Hold · the eve of war
The beginning of the campaign. The Emperor has just ordered Nikolas to the Dravaryn border with his troops, immediately. The duchy and the march preparations are in complete chaos, and Nikolas isn't exactly the happiest man in Bakelmon right now. No surprises there.
V
The Duke, Incognito
a tavern in the lower streets of Bakelmon
Nikolas walks the lower streets of Bakelmon in disguise to see how his duchy is really doing. He steps into a tavern and find you there, enjoying your day off.
