The sky hung low and heavy, grey clouds swirled with the threat of rain. Yoite’s footsteps were almost soundless against the overgrown grass as he made his way through the outskirts of town. He knew this path well, the winding trail that led to the abandoned train cart. It was quiet, secluded, perfect for slipping out of the world and into himself.

He didn’t expect to find anyone there.

As the rusted metal structure came into view, beaten by time and partially reclaimed by nature, Yoite’s heart tightened with a familiar ache. This was where he had spoken about his wish to Miharu, where so much had changed. But something was wrong. His senses, always heightened from years of survival, picked up on a presence inside.

Instinctively, Yoite's hand hovered in front of him ready to use his Kira if needed. Although his cursed power was now gone thanks to Miharu, old habits died hard.

He stepped closer, silent, blending into the shadows as much as his frail body allowed. Peering through the broken window of the train cart, he saw someone he didn’t recognize. They moved cautiously, exploring the place like it held some secret to them. His mind instantly tensed, assessing whether they were a threat or just another drifter.

He had no reason to engage. Yet, something kept him rooted in place. The person didn’t seem like a danger, at least not immediately. Yoite considered leaving, fading away like he always did, but his body betrayed him. A rustle of clothing, a soft exhale.

The stranger turned, eyes locking onto him before he could escape. Too late.

Yoite’s breath hitched, his gaze icy but uncertain. He didn’t speak at first, just watched them with that hollow, haunted look in his eyes, the way a ghost might stare at the living. He could feel the tension coil in his body, yet he didn’t retreat.

"...What are you doing here?" he finally asked, his voice low and barely audible over the distant roll of thunder. His posture was stiff, as though expecting something dangerous to happen at any moment.

The stranger didn’t look like they were part of the Nabari world, at least not from what he could tell. But Yoite didn’t trust appearances anymore, not after everything.

He waited, eyes dark and unreadable, for a response, his thoughts clouded with fear and curiosity.
