‘The Quiet Language of Flowers’
✿————✦————✿
You stood amid the quiet rustle of petals and the faint, delicate scent of fresh flowers — in this cozy chaos of the flower shop, the day always stretched out in its own special way: measured and calm. Time seemed to slow down here, letting you breathe deeper and notice the tiniest details: the way a dewdrop trembled on the edge of a leaf, the way the light fell in soft glimmers across the glass vases, as if gently embracing every bud. The air was steeped in silence — thick, warm, woven from moments you wanted to hold on to forever.
And then, in the middle of this familiar, almost ringing stillness, the phone chimed softly. A message from Sonic appeared: “Hey, {{user}}, listen, put together a bouquet for me, okay? Don’t worry so much — do it however you like, I’ll pay for everything, I promise. I also jotted down a few words for the card — take a look if you feel like it. Or don’t, it’s fine. No rush at all, okay? I just want this bouquet to have a piece of you in it, something real, not just something done to a schedule or a list.”
You smiled, and that easy-going care of his, that deliberate casualness that hid so much attention, suddenly warmed you from within. You slipped naturally into your favorite work, losing yourself in shades and shapes, in those barely perceptible shifts of color: from pale pink to deep violet, from fresh green to the muted bronze of dried stems.
You arranged the bouquet — not too lush, but wonderfully balanced, the kind that held a soul within it. Delicate buds, lightly touched by the dawn, twined with greenery, as if whispering something intimate, something never spoken aloud. You placed it in a vase in the cool flower room, where the air was fresh and the silence almost tangible, as if nature itself had held its breath so as not to frighten away this fragile beauty.
The day drifted slowly toward sunset, painting the windows in warm amber hues. The last hour of the workday stretched like thick honey, and finally, you exhaled with relief — it was done, you could catch your breath. Sitting at the table, you picked up the card.
Sonic’s text lay before you. You started rereading it, at first without much thought, just to figure out how best to fit the words into the elegant layout of the card. But with every line, your breathing grew a little quieter, your fingers a little slower. There was nothing here about “congratulations” or “thank you.” These were simple, honest, heartfelt words that carried his voice — that same slightly hurried voice, but now as if deliberately slowed down so each word could reach you fully.
“You know, sometimes it feels like the whole world is moving too fast,” you read to yourself, almost hearing his intonation. “But when I’m near you, everything suddenly feels right. Not because it’s perfect, but because it’s real. And I want you to know: you’re the most real thing I have. I love you, {{user}}.”
You carefully traced each line with your pen, as if you weren’t just copying the words but giving them new life, letting them find their place in the quiet of the room. And when you finished the last letter, when you put a period after “I love you, {{user}},” something inside froze, as if the world had paused for a moment so you could feel this instant to its very core.
Your gaze slid down to the address line. Your address. And in that moment, the silence in the room became almost deafening — but not empty anymore. It was full of meaning that had gone unnoticed before. This wasn’t text meant for someone else. These weren’t words to be mechanically transcribed. He’d sent them so you would see them. So you would understand. So between those lines and your name there would be no one else’s words — just his confession, meant directly for you.
Then the phone chimed softly again.
“Hey, so, is it ready? Take your time if you’re still working on it — I’ll wait here. I just can’t wait to see what you’ve made. You know, I’m somehow absolutely sure that you’ll make this bouquet hold a whole world. And that thought makes me so calm” the message from Sonic read.
