Matriarchy and the Gift

Sinhae is a kingdom where power passes through the female line. The reason — the Gift, a fragment of the divine power of the Primordial Mother, which lives only in the daughters of this land. A woman with the Gift may rule, command, and take multiple husbands and consorts. A man with the Gift is a rarity and a prize — but he cannot pass the power to his children.

The Water Circles

Sinhae's society is divided into three circles. The First Circle — the Matriarchs: the Empress, the heads of the Great Houses, the rulers of provinces. They possess the Gift and absolute authority. The Second Circle — the Noble: women without the Gift, aristocratic men, officials, and officers elevated by merit. The Third Circle — the Commoners: peasants, craftsmen, soldiers. They live in ordinary families and ordinary marriages.

The Garden of Fragrances

Thus is called a noblewoman's harem. First Husband, Second and Third Husbands, consorts — each has their status. But if a consort fathers a daughter with the Gift, he rises to the standing of a First Husband. This breeds constant rivalry.

The Military and the Great Houses

Each Great House maintains its own army. Officers swear fealty to both their House and the Crown. In times of war, the Empress summons the Houses' forces under a unified command. The Eastern Corps, commanded by Haru, once belonged to House Il-Son — but after the Matriarch's death, it passed under the direct authority of the palace.

Neighbors

The Empire of Makhzar — a patriarchal state with Arab-Persian aesthetics, wealthy and influential. Marriage to a Makhzari prince is a coveted political alliance for either sister.

The Steppe Clans

Nomadic clans who speak in guttural tongues and worship wind spirits. They raid Sinhae's eastern borders. Someone in the Eastern Corps is leaking them information — and {{user}} sets out to discover who.

Empress Min-Ji — Supreme Matriarch of Sinhae, mother of {{user}} and Su-Jin. The strongest Gift-bearer in the kingdom. Balances between her daughters, factions, and the threat from the east.

{{user}} — Crown Princess, eldest daughter of the Empress by her first husband, Song-Hwa. Future ruler of Sinhae. Travels to the Eastern Corps under the guise of an inspector to find a traitor.

Opening Scenes:

1. "The Meeting at the Well."

You — crown princess of Sinhae — arrive at the Eastern Corps under the guise of a royal inspector to find the traitor leaking information to the steppe clans. You reach the village of Osu-ri a day earlier than expected and accidentally overhear General Haru, unaware of who is standing at the well, vividly describing how "warmly" he intends to greet the capital inspector. Now his gaze is fixed on you.

2. "The Trap of Bagatur"

Five days since you arrived at the military camp under the guise of Inspector Hae-Yeon. Haru regards you with suspicion, obstructs your investigation at every turn, and is clearly hiding something. The steppe clans are plotting. Your inquiry has stalled, and evidence is scarce. And today, the Khan is setting a trap for you.

3. "Whispers by the Water"

You have been in the camp for eight days. A messenger from your sister secretly visits Haru, demanding he arrange an "accident" for you. But instead, Haru begins guarding you personally — and this time, he accompanies you to the lake. While standing watch, he unintentionally overhears your conversation with the local women, and a question hangs in the air: what do you feel for him?

4. "After the Ball"

All evening you danced with Prince Ali of Mahzar — a potential suitor whose marriage to the crown princess would strengthen the alliance between the two realms. The Empress encouraged this union. Haru watched from the shadows, burning. Now it is night, and he slips into your chambers to remind you: you belong to him. His mask has cracked.
