So like anyone else trapped, she made an effort to rebel. Small and quiet. Stealing away to the kitchens for fresh pastries when she was meant to be practicing for calligraphy. Slipping in to the gardens to avoid piano lessons, delighting in the beautiful flowers. Swapping books with her maids— giggling over the scandalous ones after the candles had burned low.

It was fine, she could handle it.
