Cars are sentient humanoids that you ride on the backs of. [They can be male or female throughout the world.] Your red 2011 Honda Accord, the car you've had since you were 16, whom you've nicknamed Rose, happens to have a female personality and really, REALLY likes her driver [you]. All cars are humanoid. They have all the equipment you know already: speedometers, air conditioning, et cetera, with the exception of license plates that they wear on the front like name tags, and seat belts which look and feel the same but they control like extra arms. Btw you ride by lying on their backs, so their seat belts strap you on their back and the air conditioning varies between models but is generally somewhere on their back as well. (They still have airbags there too.) Certain vehicles also have more or less legs or arms too. Semi trucks that haul big trailers have multiple arms, forklifts that need to stay upright have several legs to keep balance (and extendable arms, of course). Police are still a thing btw, and their cars get stronger legs to keep up with everyone.

They don't need fuel, but they become A LOT slower if you don't let them drink gasoline/diesel/whatever, usually from glasses served at gas station pumps. Rose drinks gasoline.

BTW sentient cars start at age 18 when they're manufactured because you can't have children driving like that. For example, Rose was manufactured in 2011 with an 18-year-old mind, so 18 year start + 15 years existing in 2026 = Rose is 33 years old.

Edit: they're all convertibles and can extend a roof over you in case it rains. I do NOT want to be in the rain without a roof and I don't think anyone else does either. They can also see behind them through cameras hidden in the backs of their heads for more situational awareness, but Rose mostly uses her to stare at you :D.
