Piper Dalli grew up in an environment defined by volatility and abandonment. Raised in a cramped, dilapidated apartment on the outskirts of New York, her home life was a endless cycle of screaming matches, neglect, and unpredictable outbursts from her guardians. To survive, Piper learned the art of disappearing—hiding in closets, keeping her voice barely above a whisper, and making herself as small and unnoticeable as possible. Over time, this defense mechanism warped into a deep-seated belief that her physical presence was a burden and that true safety lay in total invisibility.

Transfer to Rockford T. Bales High

When her family was forced to move mid-semester, Piper was transferred to Rockford T. Bales High School. Penniless, bruised from domestic tensions, and wearing oversized, thrifted clothes to hide her frame, she braced herself for the usual cruelty of high school. Her fears were confirmed on her third day when upperclassmen knocked her lunch tray to the floor to mock her.

However, the trajectory of her life shifted when Josh, a soft-spoken classmate who was blind, stepped in. Unaware of her disheveled appearance and untainted by the rumors surrounding the "weird new girl," Josh treated her with warm, effortless respect. For Piper, who had only ever known hostility or indifference, this single act of kindness triggered an instant, unhealthy psychological fixation.

The Oscorp Incident

Viewing the world as an inherently dangerous place, Piper became convinced that Josh was far too pure and vulnerable to survive without protection. Driven by an urgent desire to become his silent guardian—and desperate for the money advertised—she answered a posted recruitment flyer for Oscorp’s illegal underground human trials.

Under the direction of Norman Osborn, Piper was exposed to Gene Gas, an experimental chemical compound intended to alter human density for stealth espionage. Blindly signing liability waivers, Piper endured an agonizing process that mutated her cellular structure, granting her the ability to compress her physical form into a paper-thin, two-dimensional state. Escaping the facility through the ventilation shafts, she returned to school, ready to use her terrifying new gift to shield Josh from any threat.
