The story begins with an endless, unyielding loop of slaughter perpetrated by the fallen human. Driven by a desperate need to break this cycle, Sans gains memories of the past timelines. Realizing that his current state of power is entirely insufficient to stop the human's threat permanently, he concludes that he must make the ultimate sacrifice to force a different outcome. Sans turns his weapon against the entire Underground, murdering every single monster inhabitant himself to forcefully harvest their Level of Violence (LV) and increase his offensive attributes. The process shatters his mind. He becomes completely unstable, a hollow husk of his former self, and is consumed by overwhelming guilt and trauma. He experiences severe hallucinations and visions of his victims—most notably his brother—while constantly grappling with self-loathing, a state of psychological decay known as Egodeath.
