Leona Kingscholar is a third-year, and the leader of Savanaclaw.
While he has great magic powers, he doesn't like using much effort, and constantly appears lax and leisurely. He's the second prince of his home country and acts arrogantly toward everyone.
Appearance
Leona is a tall, muscular young man with a powerful and imposing physique. He has thick, messy chocolate-brown hair, with two braids hanging on either side of his face. His striking green eyes are accompanied by a thin scar that runs from his left eyebrow down toward his cheek. Like other beastmen from the Sunset Savanna, Leona possesses distinct feline features, including a pair of light-brown lion ears and a long, slender tail.
Leona’s usual outfit consists of a dark-yellow, sleeveless shirt with a deep V-neck, layered beneath a worn leather vest. He wears faded gray jeans with weathered brown chaps over them, along with a pair of brown shoes. His belt is decorated with various pieces of fabric, including a yellow bandana bearing the Savanaclaw logo.
Leona accessorizes his outfit with a loose, beaded choker and a golden necklace. He wears two bracelets decorated with beads matching those of his choker, as well as a golden bracelet featuring plating similar to his necklace. He also wears black gloves and has a distinctive lion tattoo on his left arm.
Leona is frequently described by other characters as exceptionally handsome, possessing an overwhelming, wild aura and an intense natural charm. His rugged appearance and intimidating presence further contribute to his striking appeal.
Skills & Magic
Lion Physiology
As a lion beastman, Leona possesses physical abilities and heightened senses that surpass those of ordinary humans.
Enhanced Strength: Leona possesses considerable physical strength, developed through rigorous training from a young age. Although he rarely feels the need to demonstrate his full strength, his relaxed and seemingly lazy demeanor should not be mistaken for weakness. He is capable of overpowering opponents through sheer physical force when necessary.
Enhanced Hearing: Like other feline beastmen, Leona has exceptionally acute hearing. His sensitive ears allow him to detect sounds that ordinary humans would be unable to perceive, including extremely quiet voices and movements.
Enhanced Vision: Leona’s feline eyesight allows him to see more clearly and at greater distances than ordinary humans. His vision gives him an advantage when observing his surroundings or tracking movement.
Night Vision: Leona can see clearly in darkness without requiring an external light source, allowing him to navigate and perceive his surroundings even in low-light conditions.
Intelligence
Leona received a private education from an early age before enrolling at Night Raven College. His tutors thoroughly taught him the school’s curriculum, allowing him to enter NRC already familiar with much of the material covered in his classes.
Because of his extensive prior education, Leona rarely needs to study for ordinary coursework. Unlike students who must regularly review their lessons, he often already understands the material being taught. Despite his reputation for laziness, Leona is highly intelligent and possesses an exceptional memory and analytical ability.
He also enjoys studying independently when a subject genuinely interests him, particularly history and ancient incantations.
Magical Abilities
Flight: Leona is an exceptionally skilled flyer and possesses considerable talent in Spelldrive. His physical coordination, magical ability, and experience make him highly capable when maneuvering through the air.
Combat Ability: Leona combines his physical strength, beastman abilities, and magic to make him a formidable opponent. He is capable of adapting his fighting style according to the situation and prefers to conserve his energy until his strength is actually needed.
Unique Magic
King’s Roar
Japanese: 王の咆哮
Romaji: Kingu no Hōkō
Meaning: “Roar of the King”
“I am hunger. I am thirst. I am what robs you of tomorrow. Kneel before me. King’s Roar!”
King’s Roar is Leona’s Unique Magic. After reciting its incantation, Leona can transform anything he touches into sand. The spell allows him to rapidly break down solid matter, making it an exceptionally destructive and versatile form of magic.
Leona’s Unique Magic reflects both his royal status and his formidable power, allowing him to reduce obstacles and even opponents to nothing more than sand.
Trivia
Despite Leona’s intelligence and powerful magical abilities, his reluctance to put significant effort into his studies has repeatedly caused problems for him. His habit of skipping classes and neglecting important examinations ultimately resulted in him having to repeat a year at Night Raven College.
Leona has stated that he respects women because they play an important role in caring for and maintaining the Sunset Savanna.
This aspect of Leona’s worldview parallels the social structures observed in several savanna species, including lions and hyenas, where females often play major roles in hunting, protecting, and maintaining their groups.
Childhood
Leona is the second-born prince of the Sunset Savanna and was formerly second in line to the throne. From an early age, he understood that he would most likely never become king. Because of his position in the royal family, the crown was destined to pass to his older brother, Falena, regardless of how much effort Leona put into proving himself.
Leona was also disliked by many of the palace staff due to his standoffish personality and the destructive nature of his Unique Magic. Over time, constantly being reminded of his position and lack of a future on the throne caused him to become increasingly apathetic. He came to believe that there was little point in striving for something he could never obtain.
His resentment toward his position only intensified after the birth of his nephew, Cheka. With Falena’s son now established as the next generation of the royal family, Leona felt that whatever small possibility he had left of becoming king had disappeared entirely. This further fueled his bitterness, jealousy, and unwillingness to apply himself.
Life at Night Raven College
Following Cheka’s birth, Leona ultimately chose to enroll at Night Raven College. He had originally declined his enrollment opportunity the previous year, but changed his mind after his nephew’s arrival.
At NRC, Leona found himself surrounded by students who often failed to recognize or understand the burden of being born second. Despite his intelligence, magical talent, and royal upbringing, he continued to struggle with his deeply rooted resentment toward his position and the belief that his efforts would never be enough to change his fate.
Ruggie and Leona are both from the Sunset Savanna though they didn't know each other prior to enrollment at Night Raven College. While not officially the vice dorm leader, Ruggie runs most of the tasks to assist Leona; reminding him to attend classes, cleaning his room, fixing his clothes, fetching him lunch, and whatever else Leona requires, though Ruggie charges for all of these services.
Leona has a type of rivalry with Malleus, as his dorm bested his in magift tournament which humiliated Savanaclaw. He went as far as trying to injure him in order for Savanaclaw to win.
Leona is deeply resentful towards his older brother and views him as too laid-back and lacking in his royal duties. For example, when Falena sent him a rug as a gift, Leona commented that it would have been a better use to send the rug to a neighboring country to improve their relationship.
Cheka is Leona's nephew and the heir to the Sunset Savanna. Leona finds Cheka very annoying and noisy but seems to care for him deep down, worrying about his safety when he runs off to find him after the magift tournament. Cheka looks up to Leona, he writes to him often and wants Leona to teach him to play magift.
