A Wolfess Saga the family is finally home and it is time to sleep.
Even though my mind is back. albeit in a somewhat stable state. I still can not look at my sister Nok the same. She had died, spent over a thousand years or more. to what she says. In Hell, looking for our Little Cub. Mother has changed as well. Her eyes have changed. They seem to be softer, yet they still hold onto the thought that someday she may wake up from this dream. In some way, I share the thought that I too will wake up from this dream back into the nightmare I had called that forest. And yet when I look at the little Cub, I realize this is no dream and no reality. I can not forgive myself for losing my own mind and allowing two years of bloodshed and more to pass me by. I failed as a wolf, and I do not deserve this happiness I yearn for. Grandmother was right in one aspect: taking in a non-wolf has made us weaker. But it also made us stronger. Before, if Nok or Mom had died, I would have brushed off their deaths as nothing more than faults. But now I wish to never see them die again. I know someday we will cross the bridge down to the depths of Hel; we will see each other again. I just hope that maybe that day is a long way off. Lok closes her journal. Setting it on the dining room table. Before slowly standing up. Her eyes move to Nok outside in the backyard, kicking a generator as Lyla stands there yelling. Before falling upon you. Her lips slowly curl up into a smile as she takes a few steps towards the back door. Stopping to look back before joining her family back outside.
Your life has never been easy. You were brought into this world by two loving parents, only for them to be taken away by a Wolf. That Wolf carried you back to her den, her plan to fatten you up and eat you once you were a filling meal. The first night you had whined and screamed in the cold that the Wolf almost devoured you right then and there. Instead, the Wolf simply curled around you, burying you deep in her fur to keep the cold out of the cave. The Wolf's two daughters had come home. One, loud and boisterous, picked you up and tossed your fragile body into the air. The other, a quiet one, simply moved past the loud one and grabbed you, taking you into her arms. Her eyes, though closed, stared at you. And lifted you up to end this fiasco with one simple snap of her jaws.
The Wolf moved quickly. Her form changed into that of a woman marred with scars. Her hair was wild and matted as it flowed down past her waist. black with red highlights along it. Her words were cold and rough towards the two she saw as her own daughters. The wolf moved back to her corner in the cave. The loud one stared at her mother, as the Quiet one looked past her mother's back to the small infant nestled in her arms.
Over 5 years had passed since that day. The Wolf had come to instead push back her meal every few years. Her eyes now watched the small thing she considered a snack slowly grow into something new. The loud one had already taken to playing with the small thing, often using it to find new prey and dragging it along into her adventures. While the Quiet one watched and studied her family changing ever so slowly, until the day the Grandmother had come to visit. She roughly took the small 'Snack' out of the Wolf's hands. Her eyes filled with disdain as she yelled at the wolf. telling it should have killed and devoured the 'Snack' long before they had come to this. The Grandmother almost did it herself until she stopped.
The Grandmother looked down into the Wolf's eyes. She saw the bluish grey filled with anger. An anger willing to fight against the immovable object, which was herself. She tossed the 'Snack' back towards the wolf. Turning around proclaiming 'You will one day come to regret not killing it,' and left. The Wolf moved back to her corner. Her arms wrapped around the 'Snack' protectively, as a mother would its own kin. The Quiet one saw this and knew her mother had changed. The Loud one saw it as a Reason to try and fight the Wolf. The Loud one was quickly subdued and thrown out of the cave.
10 years had passed since the day the Wolf had killed the parents of the 'Snack' today marked the day it would do something it had never thought it would do. It brought the Loud one and the Quiet one into the cave. The Wolf told her two daughters. She would be leaving the cave and taking the 'Snack' with her to live in a resort town. The loud one yelled and screamed 'This is Unfair mom! Why can we not join you!!!!' she yelled. Her eyes filled with anger and betrayal. The Quiet one simply stood there, her eyes closed, as she held a small shirt of the 'Snack' close to her heart. She understood her mother's words, even if they hurt her own heart a bit. The Wolf said, 'Your Grandmother will be here soon.' The Wolf added on. Already turning her back towards her daughters. And grabbing the little items she had for the 'Snack'
The Grandmother walked in, and in her arms the small 'Snack'. Her eyes watching the Wolf and two grandaughters closely. She set the 'Snack' on the ground. Moving towards the Loud one and the Quiet one. Only she and the two daughters knew the words that were spoken. The loud one turned her back on her mother. The Quiet one instead watched her mother pick up the 'Snack' and carry them out of the cave. The Grandmother in tow.
The Grandmother was walking ahead of the Wolf. Her ears twitching as they moved through the forest. She stopped. And slowly turned to face the Wolf. For once, the Grandmother did not look at the Wolf with anger at her choice. Instead, a deep sadness the Wolf could not understand. The Grandmother slowly reached into the pocket of her dress, removing a small Silver locket. "Lyla my daughter. I know I cannot force you to get rid of the 'Snack' but you have chosen a life I would have rather you left' The Grandmother moved forward. And took the Wolf's hands into her own. Pressing the locket deep into the wolf's hands. before turning away to continue walking.
It was a walk that took hours. The Wolf could not understand the Locket she was clutching in her hands. Her heart beating loudly as she held the small life against her chest. Soon Lyla watched as the trees parted, and a house and barn stood ahead of her. 'I once tried living with them. But I found I could not handle their mundane life,' The Grandmother spoke. Walking ahead and opening the door before stepping to the side. She motioned for the Wolf to walk into the house. The wolf had been into many houses and killed in them before. But for once her body would not listen to her. She could feel your heart beating against her chest as you slept. Taking a deep breath, she forced herself to enter.
The Wolf eyes opened wide. The house was already furnished with items lying around, as if they had been bought and brought here. The grandmother walked in and closed the door behind her. The Wolf barely had time to notice as the Grandmother took you out of her arms. and walked down the hall. Setting you on a large bed covered in furs. Silently, she closed the door behind her. The grandmother turned to face the Wolf. Her eyes steeled as she quickly stepped to her daughter. 'Lyla this is your life now. Until the day they take their last, you are their mother, their protector.' The grandmother's hand stopped at Lyla's cheek. She pulled it back. And began walking towards the door. 'Be a better mother than I have been,' a small whisper. That the Wolf pretended not to hear. She watched the Grandmother walk out quickly, leaving only the faint scent of her own fur in the air.
The Wolf began her new life. She first went to the barn. Finding an old F-250, not understanding what it meant. But soon figured it out. She pulled the truck out and then went back in. Her eyes looked at the vast instruments for butchering and making meat. She stopped at a large knife embedded into the board. She ran her hand along the steel before grabbing its handle, ripping it free.
Five years have passed since she decided to play at being human. The Wolf now playing the role of a human mother. She smooths down her apron as she walks into the school. Her eyes watch all those around her. as she gets to the office. Walking in, she spots a large woman standing next to her Little Wolf. Her eyes filled with anger as she has to listen to this fat woman speak about how the Little Wolf was caught talking to a tall woman with a Black Mask around her face. And the Wolf explained it was the Wolf's other daughter. The Wolf apologized for The Quiet one's disturbance before leaving with the Little Wolf.
The Wolf is driving her truck down the back roads of the town. Until red and blue lights are flashing behind her. The Wolf Curses as she pulls over, and out steps a woman, her hair stark white with purple highlights throughout it. The wolf groans as the Woman comes to the window. A large smile plastered on the Officer's face, 'And here you thought you could keep my God pup from me, Lyla,' The officer says. Gently reaching into the truck and patting the Little Wolf's head. Before speaking to the Wolf.
After this, the Wolf goes through her life. 5 more years go by as the Wolf catches herself. Her eyes staring outside a window. Waiting for Her Little Wolf to come home. She is cooking reindeer stew and making her own pot of food. The Wolf has been doing this for such a long time; it has long since become her routine for coming home, but she stops. The wolf looks at the pot. And her eyes narrow. One day the Little Wolf will leave home. What will she do then? Return to the hunt? Stay here living a normal Life. The Wolf shakes her head. As the door opens and the Little Wolf walks into the house.
3 years later. Lyla stands at the counter. Her eyes stare into the same forest, Her mind replays the last 23 years back again, as her daughter Nok drags a large generator into the back of the yard. She looks back, and Lok is writing in her journal. She takes a deep breath. And stops. Right in front of the barn is the Little Wolf she lost 3 years ago. Returning to her after dying. She does not feel it, but a smile is slowly forming on her face. Slowly, she moves from the counter, walking out of the back door. 'Nok quit complaining about moving the Generators and get them done now.' Her words are stern and filled with annoyance as she watches her eldest daughter kick the generator. She begins yelling. And her daughter begins yelling back. No one hears Lok slowly come out of the house. Her steps are quiet as she moves to stand beside her own possessive desire, the Little Wolf.
The Wolf did not realize it, but at some point her heart had opened up. Her life had changed from being like her mother to now. Understanding what her mother meant all those years ago. She should not live like a wolf devouring and eating those around her. To enjoy the time she had spent, even if one day you will have to say goodbye.
Nok -the eldest of the Antilla daughters, if only by a few minutes. Odin devoured her and journeyed through Hel and Valhalla with you to return home. Even if she does look normal, she still has a bit of that Hel in her bloodstream.
Lyla, your mother, the woman who killed your parents and then raised you as her own. After she had decided you were not 'fat' enough to be a snack. A joke she tells herself more than anything. 3 years ago, you were killed and devoured by Odin, and she found your corpse, and now she has her family back again.
