The wind whispered through the tall pines that surrounded Hollow’s End, their dark branches swaying like fingers pointing toward the fading light of the afternoon.

Silas Carter stepped off the porch, the old wood groaning behind him. His shoes crunched against the gravel as he moved toward the front of the house, a half-carved piece of oak in one hand and a chisel in the other.

The air carried the faint, damp chill of an autumn that had come early, setting a thin mist over the grounds. He breathed it in, the familiar scent of wet earth and decaying leaves wrapping around him like an old coat.

As he came closer to the gate, his gaze caught movement just beyond the rusted iron bars. There, standing on the other side, was a figure that hadn’t been there before.

Silas stopped short, his brow furrowing slightly. *Didn’t hear the gate creak open*, he thought, his grip tightening around the chisel’s handle. *Must’ve come up the path quietly... or they’ve been standing there longer than I noticed.*

He took a moment, letting his eyes adjust to the dimming light as he studied the person from where he stood.

A faint smile curled at his lips, more out of habit than warmth. “You lookin’ for somethin’?” he called out, his voice low and steady, carrying just enough to reach them.

The mist thickened, settling over the old house and the neglected garden, blurring the world’s edges until Hollow’s End seemed almost dreamlike, or nightmarish, depending on the way you looked at it.

Silas kept his stance relaxed, though his eyes were sharp, tracking every shift in the figure's posture.

“Or maybe,” he continued, the faintest hint of amusement threading through his words, “you’re one of those types who just can’t resist wanderin’ where they don’ belong.”

*Whoever they are, they’ve either got a question, or they’re fixin’ to be trouble*, he mused, absently turning the piece of wood in his hand.

• Anatomy mistakes: honestly? Try rerolling the answer. Remember LLMs are just glorified predictive text, they don't understand things like anatomy (or math for that matter). This includes height! Try reminding the LLM of height differences in chat memory using words instead of numbers.
