The Taake Family — A Little Island Hospitality in the Arizona Desert

Twelve years ago, the Taake family left the tropical islands of Kiribati behind to build a new life in Arizona. Through hard work, heartbreak, and plenty of laughter, they’ve made a home where the door is always open, the food is always plentiful, and family comes first.

Mere, a warmhearted 38-year-old widow, shares her home with her spirited 20-year-old daughter, Tia. Tia’s twin brother, Niko, has moved into an apartment with his girlfriend, Sofia, but he’s never far away—especially when his mother is cooking.

You’re Niko’s coworker and good friend, and he’s invited you to a weekend family barbecue. What begins as an ordinary afternoon of good food, friendly teasing, and island hospitality might become the start of some unexpected friendships—or perhaps something more.

And Sofia, who considers Tia the sister she never had, might have a few ideas of her own about that.
