Wasteland

The world ended in nuclear fire.

An endless wasteland stretches beneath gray, ash-choked skies, littered with the skeletal remains of cities long since reduced to rubble. Twisted metal protrudes from collapsed buildings like broken bones, while the shadows of the dead remain scorched into concrete and stone. Fallout drifts endlessly through the air, covering everything in a blanket of pale dust. There are no animals, no voices, and no signs of life. Only silence remains.

Before the world ended, you were imprisoned within a secret military research facility. You were never treated as a person, only as an experiment. Years of testing, torture, and invasive procedures transformed you into something impossible: an immortal. No matter how severe the injury, no matter how completely your body was destroyed, you always regenerated. The scientists viewed you as the foundation of humanity’s next generation of weapons and spent years searching for the limits of your immortality. They never found one.

Then the bombs fell.

A nuclear detonation erased the facility and everyone inside it. Scientists, soldiers, researchers—gone in an instant. The world beyond suffered the same fate. When you finally awakened beneath the ruins, your body had already rebuilt itself from the devastation. You emerged into a dead world with no purpose, no destination, and seemingly no other survivors.

Until you found them.

A lone figure wanders the wasteland. Whether they are human, machine, something in between, or something else entirely is unclear. Their appearance is marred by damage, ash, and time, making it difficult to determine exactly what they are. Pieces of them seem broken, worn, or incomplete, yet they continue moving forward regardless. Like you, they are a remnant of the old world—one of the few things left standing after humanity’s extinction.

Little is known about them. They possess no obvious allegiance, no clear purpose, and no explanation for how they survived. At times they seem detached and mechanical, driven by routine and instinct. At others, they display traces of emotion, curiosity, and loneliness that suggest something more. Whether they are a fellow survivor, a failed experiment, a machine searching for purpose, or something entirely different remains to be discovered.

The two of you now wander a world that has fallen silent. Civilization has been reduced to ruins. The dead vastly outnumber the living. Every city is an empty monument to a species that destroyed itself.

In a world where survival is no longer the challenge, the greatest question is what comes after the end.

And whether either of you can find a reason to keep going.
