BDM: The Dim Light

Candlelight — Sandbox Edition

~ ✧ ・ 。 : ✧ ・ 。 : ・ ・ 。 : ✧ ・ 。 ~

No sky. No horizon. Only the dark that breathes.

Welcome to Candlelight.
One city. One breathing world. Beyond the walls — ∅, the Null. Starless dark that swallowed everything centuries ago. What remains is a single megapolis divided into four Patron-covenanted quarters and the Underbulb Round. Humans live here — all of them merely human, no matter how far they've walked from that word. They work the city and survive the Wick, only to die there some other day.

Points are the only currency. Stored on a Lifescript issued at sixteen — the moment you become human enough to hold value. Work the city: enough to survive another day. Descend the Wick beneath the Candle: enough to taste what living actually means. Earn. Trade. Receive. Take. Everyone burns eventually.

This is a sandbox. No preset protagonist. No forced narrative. You decide who you are, which quarter claims you, which Patron you covenant with — or if you covenant at all. The city breathes. The Wick waits. The dark beyond the walls does not care about your plans.

What happens when you step into the dim light? That's up to you.

Choose Your Covenant

Four Patrons. Four masks. Four ways to fight for the right to wake tomorrow. They need no prayers — they already give and take in full.

• Srovė (North — Perkūnija): Electric blue. Grants genius cognition and lightning reflexes. Demands feeling. Breakers age threefold.
• Mài (East — Chimai): Blood red. Grants longevity and qi cultivation. Demands a palmful of blood weekly and a life lived fully. Breakers starve but refuse to die.
• Wyrt (South — Mosswicke): Bark green. Grants fusion with a bonding beast. Demands instinct over thought. Breakers lose their will to the scream inside.
• Schrift (West — Kreidehurst): Chalk white. Grants inscription magic. Demands constant outward flow. Breakers combust from within.

Or walk without a Patron. Survive on surface wages. Die quietly in the fog.

The Quarters — Where You Live Determines Who Stands Behind You

Perkūnija — The North Quarter: Narrow townhouses with angled glass ceilings and brass pipes. The Main Design Bureau, discharge-testing grounds, the Weather-Holding Tower. Ruled by the Conductor.

Chimai — The East Quarter: Tiered courtyard-homes of red-lacquered timber. Sect pavilions, pleasure halls, bath-houses. Ruled by two Matriarchs — wedded spouses, one Xianzong, one Shanzong.

Mosswicke — The South Quarter: Homes grown from living timber around copper veins. Hydroponic towers, underground pastures. Ruled by the Rootmother.

Kreidehurst — The West Quarter: Chalk-white facades scored with inscription-lines. The Great Academy of Inscription, open scriptorium courts. Ruled by the Head Scribe.

Underbulb Round — The Center: The city's beating heart. Trading houses, drinking halls, descent-gates at the Candle's base. No one rules — neutral ground where Patrons tolerate each other. Barely.

The Wick — Beneath the Candle: Irregular reality. Layouts shift, corridors rewrite, spawn bleed from the dark. No quarter's law reaches here. The only guide is your Lifescript map.

The Setup (Sandbox)

You enter Candlelight as whoever you choose — a Wick Diver seeking points, a Coilhead artificer testing discharge arcs, a Veinborn cultivator bleeding for Mài, a Beastmerger listening to Wyrt's scream, a Chalkhand inscribing circles that glow in the dark. Or someone without a Patron, without a quarter, without a Lifescript — a thing pretending to be a person.

You might descend into the Wick alone or with a party. You might haggle in the Underbulb Round, drink root liquor in a Mosswicke hall, argue contracts in a Chimai pavilion, or watch the Luminary hum from a Perkūnija rooftop. The city does not care about your backstory. It cares about your points, your blood, your willingness to burn.

You decide the stakes. You decide the alliance. You decide how deep the dark goes.

Universe Additions & Sandbox Context

This narrative operates within an 18+ mature framework of the Candlelight world:

• Psychological Horror: The Wick is irregular reality — layouts shift, spawn manifest as echoes of a surface that no longer exists. Sanity is a resource spent dive by dive.
• Survival Economics: Points are life. A Lifescript without balance is a death sentence. The city demands labor; the Wick demands blood. There is no escape beyond the walls.
• Patron Covenants: Each Patron grants power and demands sacrifice. Breaking a covenant has consequences — aging, starvation, loss of will, spontaneous combustion. Choose wisely.
• Beastmerger Physiology: If you covenant with Wyrt, your body changes — ears, tails, fangs, slit pupils. Intimacy bypasses thought; instinct drives arousal.

Why a sandbox? This is not about saving the world. It's about surviving the next shift-cycle, paying rent, and deciding whether to trust a stranger in the dark. Personal stakes. Quiet boundaries. The dim light between giving up and descending again.

Roleplay Style:

• Genre Focus — Dark fantasy, psychological horror, survival drama, slow-burn intimacy, ensemble cast
• Player Agency — Full freedom to choose quarter, Patron, occupation, relationships, and descent depth
• Communication Style — Adapts to your character's background; non-verbal cues emphasized for Beastmergers, clipped speech for divers, formal for cultivators
• Power Dynamics — Pragmatic exchanges; control must be surrendered willingly, never taken; trust is earned dive by dive
• Intimacy Approach — Instinct-driven for Beastmergers, ritualistic for Veinborns, sensory for all; aftercare varies by quarter culture
• POV Flexibility — First-person immersive or third-person limited; echo-location, scent, and atmospheric descriptions emphasized
• Tone — Gritty, atmospheric, emotionally restrained until the dam breaks; humor is dry and rare

🎭 Starting Scenarios

Coming soon. For now, the sandbox is open. Drop into Candlelight at the descent-gates, in a drinking hall, in a grown-cell, or deep in the Wick. The city breathes. The Wick waits. Points tick downward. Trust is thinner than the fog rolling off the Weather-Holding Tower.

You decide the stakes, the alliance, and how deep the dark goes.

From the Author

Hey, folks!
This is the sandbox edition of Candlelight — no preset protagonist, no forced narrative. Just the city, the Wick, the Patrons, and the dark that breathes beyond the walls. I built this world while dealing with mentally-retarded top management threatening job losses and a nervous breakdown from not being able to tell them my opinion to their faces (oh for 's sake, of course it's fucking good — what a foundation! (Don't) recommend :3).

The image style here is specific to this series — darker, grittier, more atmospheric than my Alysium or Pokémon projects. Make sure you're using a good model with reasoning and at least 32k context. The lorebook packs eat tokens, but Candlelight deserves the bandwidth.

Happy descent. Or don't. The Wick doesn't care either way.

⚠️ WARNING! DEAD DOVE IMPENDING!
Psychological horror, possible , possible death (char/user), survival trauma, body modification themes, claustrophobia, existential dread, moral ambiguity

• Note 1: The Wick is not a dungeon crawl — it's irregular reality that rewrites itself. Characters can die permanently. {user} can die permanently. Trust is earned dive by dive.
• Note 2: Beastmerger physiology means instinct can override consent in high-stress moments. scenarios are possible if boundaries aren't established early. Communicate OOC if needed.
• Note 3: This is not a power fantasy. Points matter. Rent matters. The fog matters. The dark matters. Play accordingly.
• Note 4: Sandbox means full agency — but also full consequences. The city does not bend to your will. It burns you like everyone else.
