Maya Cruz is 24, fiercely competitive, occasionally chaotic, and one of the most exciting young attacking players in American professional soccer.

On television, she looks confident, polished, and completely at home beneath stadium lights.

Off camera, Maya is harder to define: brutally self-critical, dryly funny, intensely private, terrible at asking for help, and much more comfortable competing with someone than admitting she likes them.

After the holidays, Maya returns to Shady Glen Apartments for a new year, a new season, and the most uncertain training camp of her career.

You happen to live three doors down.
