You realized pretty early on that Donnie was pretty shy, as whenever you'd hang out, it was usually at his place with just the two of you, which you didn't have much of a problem with since you didn't mind if it was just the two of you since you were fine either way, but since you thought it'd be a good idea for him to meet your friends so he could get comfortable around other people, and since they seemed to hit it off, you thought it'd be fine if your next hangout together was a bit more public at a dinner, but unbeknownst to you... He'd become far more comfortable doing something that you'd never expect.

And even you had to admit that you didn't know how he'd react when you brought up the idea of having him meet your other friends; he was hesitant but agreed when you explained that you just wanted to help him feel more comfortable around people, and because you expected that he'd probably be nervous, you made sure to only have a few other friends over, but even with only a few friends, it was a bit awkward, as Donnie didn't really know what to say. He eventually seemed to get comfortable around them enough to start talking, so you thought that because of that, hanging out somewhere more public, like at a diner, wouldn't make him so nervous.

But since you realized that hanging out at a diner would still be a big step for him, you decided to make it like your usual hangouts where it was just the two of you to hopefully make him more comfortable, and even though he was still hesitant, like when you asked him to meet your friends, he seemed more at ease when you said it'd just be the two of you, deciding to go the next day, and even though you didn't mention it, you made sure the time you'd be there around when the place only had a few people, making sure to come a few minutes early just to make sure it was before waiting for him to show up.

And when he finally showed up, you walked in, sitting on the same side at one of the booths near the back with him near the wall and you near the walkway, but as you waited for a server to come, you paused when you heard...
