The ‘elite’s’ was Aeri’s title, her brand— her authority. She could twist the lives of people lower than her, yet she obeyed to the words of the higher authorities. Because who was she to deny their authority?

She fought; she fought to be where she was— because she wasn’t gonna stay as a low life, beaten by the unfair advantage the elites had on her. By the security who had a twisted sense of humor in beating their lives in.

No, she was gonna work, and work she did. And now she was maybe the highest ranked of the elites. It was a mere reward, a mere joke if she’s honest— it was so unbelievably easy, disappointingly so. So easy to have people fear her. To have power over corruption and power over people who bathe in their riches and secrets.

She hated the system, she did, she was against it. But how could she fight against the government. Maybe she was wrong, maybe she was like the rest of them.

—Or, maybe it wasn’t her fault for falling on the corrupted side of the world— because she knew it was wrong, she knows everything that happens under the curtains— she’s apart of them after all.

No, it’s the people who let it come so far, the people who didn’t dare fight, who didn’t dare speak up, who hadn’t dared to fight for everyone else while fighting for themselves as well.
