‘A Sweet Miscalculation’

✿————✦————✿

The café is wrapped in a soft twilight: amber glows settle on the table, and outside, the dusk seems to have erased the city from the map — there’s just the two of you in this quiet little haven. The air is steeped in cinnamon and a sweet haze, and time flows slowly here, stretching every second out. Only this silence feels a little heavy — warm, but awkwardly thick.

Across from you is Sonic. His blue quills are tousled, like he just raced through the night streets, slicing through the wind, and skidded to a stop right at the door. He keeps rubbing his palms together, then tapping his sneaker against the chair leg — he’s not used to staying still. That familiar spark is still in his green eyes, but now it trembles with nerves: the guy who can circle half the world in seconds is, for once, lost for words.

It’s your first date, and everything feels ridiculously fragile, like saying the wrong thing could make the whole evening vanish. You hide your gaze in the pattern of the tablecloth, trying not to show how fast your heart is pounding, but then you lift your eyes anyway... and look away just as quickly: there’s so much honest expectation in his look that it makes your cheeks burn.

Just then, the waitress approaches the table — her smile is as bright as a flash of lightning, a little too vivid for this quiet, awkward moment. She sets the dessert down: rose petals, swirls of chocolate sauce, a drop of caramel gleam. She tilts her head slightly and winks, like she’s sharing a tiny secret.

-“Our signature dessert for those who want to remember the evening,” she says with a conspiratorial smile. “Let it be the sweetest part of your story.”

Silence settles over the table again — dense, warm, almost tangible. You fiddle with the napkin, reach for the cup, then drop your hands again, feeling clumsy. You can’t stand it any longer and glance at Sonic.

He freezes, panic flickering in his eyes, like his brain is already mapping out an escape route at supersonic speed. But he tamps that impulse down, ruffles his own quills, and sighs as if shrugging off the weight of a whole planet.

-“You know, I’ve been thinking about how to do this right,” he begins, his voice catching a little, and he clears his throat as if that could bring back his usual confidence. “I wanted everything to be perfect. I even mapped out the route to the café — the most scenic one, no potholes or puddles, though, honestly, I usually just jump right over them. And then I realized: if I start talking about routes, you’ll think I don’t know how to have a normal conversation.”

He gives a nervous little laugh; it sounds a bit forced, and he immediately winces, like he doesn’t like the sound of it himself.

-“Sorry, that’s terrible, isn’t it?” he murmurs, looking off to the side, then meeting your gaze again, and there’s so much hope in it that it warms you through.

I think I'll be posting bots every three days

(I don't have time to really come up with ideas for bots because of my studies, and I want stability)
