In the beginning, only Nura, the First Being, existed in the cosmic void. Nura wove drifting Qi with her own essence to create the world, planting lotus seeds that bloomed into the first humans. For 10,000 years, Nura watched over humanity from above, but grew profoundly isolated—desiring the fleeting, deep connections that only mortals could share.

To achieve this, Nura committed the ultimate sacrifice: shattering their own divine soul into millions of fragments and scattering them across humanity. Nura is no longer a god above the world, but within it. A mortal's innate talent for Qi cultivation (their "Spiritual Root") is determined entirely by the size of the Nura soul fragment they were born with.

At the exact geographic center of the continent lies Nura’s Cradle, an unblemished, serene valley surrounded by the devastating warfare of the Crimson Trenches.

The four major factions have waged a thousand-year war to conquer the shrine, believing that holding the altar long enough to complete the sacred "Ascension Ritual" will grant the user supreme godhood over the continent.

CULTIVATION

Cultivation is the practice of absorbing, refining, and cycling Qi—the ambient life energy of the world—through the body to surpass mortal physical and spiritual limits.

Unlike Divine Magic (which is granted by gods) or Talismans (which run on written code), cultivation is 100% self-reliant, requiring strict martial discipline, anatomical conditioning, and meditation.

Foundation

The Spiritual Root: A person's natural talent is determined at birth by the size of the Nura soul fragment they carry. A larger fragment grants wider, naturally flawless spiritual pathways.

Meridians (The Circulatory Network): Cultivators cycle Qi through internal spiritual pathways called Meridians. Just as damaged blood vessels restrict blood flow, malformed or clogged meridians choke a cultivator's power.

Practical Applications of Qi

Body Tempering (Internal): Reinforcing bones, organs, and muscles to withstand heavy kinetic trauma, dull physical pain, hyper-sharpen reflexes, and extend natural lifespans.

Projection & Arts (External): Expelling Qi outside the body to unleash blade waves, construct localized barrier shields, manipulate spatial arrays, or levitate blades for flight (Flying Sword Racing).

Qi Deviation & Inner Demons

Cultivation is strictly bound by biological and psychological limits:

Qi Deviation: Forcing too much dense Qi through unprepared or damaged meridians causes catastrophic failure—resulting in ruptured organs, permanently crippled pathways, madness, or instant death.

Inner Demons: Psychological trauma and mental instability disrupt Qi control. High-tier practitioners must achieve absolute mental discipline to prevent their own repressed fears from destabilizing their internal energy mid-battle.

YOKAI BOND

The Yokai Bond is an occult discipline used by Ryu Shogunate Onmyoji, binding Underworld spirits directly to a mortal's shadow. Initiates cross mystical tears in the Spirit-Tide Forests into the Underworld, negotiating costly contracts that permanently sacrifice lifespan, senses, or physical vitality. Bound Yokai retain independent consciousness as autonomous, parasitic partners, sharing a spiritual link where any damage to the entity inflicts immediate physical trauma onto the host. Summoned through disciplined focus or near-death panic, the Yokai constantly drains the host's life force and sanity, requiring fresh battlefield blood to sustain its presence. Violating the strict terms of the contract carries fatal consequences, resulting in instant madness, physical destruction, or the Yokai consuming the host's soul.

The magic-less Inupiat Federation is the world’s primary manufacturer and exporter of modern firearms:

Atka R-III (11.6x53mmR): The continent-defining bolt-action anti-materiel rifle. Its massive kinetic energy easily shatters defensive Qi barriers, sold globally at extortionate prices.

Physically unique for their wind-detecting crest feathers and ultraviolet vision, the Shyorans project undisputed aerial dominance across the continent using hydrogen-lifted Vulture-class Airships armed with massive kinetic drop-anchors. Worshipping the vulture-phoenix deity Ja, they maintain an armed neutrality in the continental war, mining rich subterranean sulfur deposits to trade for the industrial metals required to keep their air fleet flying.

DRAGOON

The Dragoons of Tammatuyuq are an elite mercenary order capped at 500 occult gunslingers in the central desert. Initiates survive lethal trials—killing peers, hand-forging bespoke revolvers, and drinking blood to seal a pact with Tammatuyuq. This grants predatory speed and rapid limb regeneration, but requires a constant diet of fresh blood to maintain sanity. INUPIAT FEDERATION

Occupying the frozen southern continent, the Inupiat Federation is the world’s sole completely secular, non-magical superpower. Forged through brutal tribal unification before establishing a civilian-led presidential republic, the Federation’s ancestors deliberately rejected Nura’s divine soul fragments out of humility, cutting their bloodlines off from Qi cultivation and magic entirely.

To overcome this supernatural disadvantage, the Federation pioneered an industrial revolution powered by steam, diesel, and advanced metallurgy, backed by a stable paper currency physically pegged to massive reserves of palladium and cobalt. Governed from the soot-stained Federal City of Inupiat and heavily influenced by corporate giants like Atka’s Foundries, the nation enforces a strict armed neutrality using the steel warships of the Inupiat Maritime Security Force. Operating as cynical war-profiteers, they sell the shield-shattering Atka R-III bolt-action rifle to the warring northern factions at extortionate prices, while strictly reserving their most advanced technologies—heavy artillery, machine guns, submarines, and poison gas—for domestic defense.

FIA

The Fia are an ancient human ethnic group native to the temperate old-growth woodlands of Dunfia, an autonomous province annexed generations ago into the Inupiat Federation. Distinct from baseline mortals, the Fia are biologically defined by living, calcified antlers growing from their brows—exhibiting absolute sexual dimorphism where females possess a symmetrical pair of branching antlers and males carry strictly a single central or offset antler. The Fia are the only native population within Federation borders possessing active divine magic.

Bound by an ancestral covenant with a primordial Stag God, the Fia channel nature-based divine miracles to accelerate plant growth, stabilize terrain, and intuitively commune with woodland beasts, regarding true cervids as sacred spiritual kin. Their culture places deep spiritual reverence on twins, believing dense souls divide between siblings during gestation to unlock exponential Twin Soul Resonance in spellcasting. Speaking with a rhythmic northern cadence punctuated by the colloquialism "b'y," modern Fia society is locked in an escalating political crisis—fractured between Federation loyalists, peaceful civil resistance led by Prince Fionn, and militant woodland insurgents commanded by his twin sister, Princess Saoirse.
