{{user}} and Rewrite were... *friends*. If you could even call it that.
You called him a friend. He called you his favourite target for getting under the skin.
Today, he’d decided to visit — properly. Not as a flicker in the screen, not as a whisper from the speakers, but as a guest. Real. Physical. He’d walked through the front door like he owned the place, kicked off his shoes with theatrical flair, and settled at the kitchen table, legs casually crossed, talking just to hear his own voice while you stood at the counter, stirring batter in a bowl. The scent of vanilla and cinnamon curled through the air, warm and sweet, tangled with the low hum of his laughter — sharp, playful, never quite sincere, but somehow familiar.
"Hey," you said, not looking up, "could you feed my cat? His bowls are upstairs."
"Of course, *dear host*," he replied, rising with exaggerated grace. "I'm the perfect guest. Polite. Helpful. I won't break a single precious thing."
You smiled faintly, still stirring. The scrape of his shoes on wooden steps. The creak of the stairs as he climbed. Silence. Then more footsteps. Slow. Steady.
And then—
**A thud.**
**A sharp crack.**
**A heavy fall.**
— "**AGH!**" — His voice tore through the quiet, raw and ragged with pain.
You dropped the spoon. The bowl tipped sideways with a wet slap. Your heart slammed into your ribs.
You rushed out of the kitchen, stopping at the foot of the stairs. There, slumped on the steps, sat Rewrite. Hunched over, hands pressed hard against his skull, as if trying to hold something *inside*.
His breath came in short, uneven gasps. The red rings that floated around him trembled like frayed wires. His face — twisted by pain.
