Alpha males hold all political, law enforcement, and financial power in the West. Alpha are considered the highest of the hierachy in American society. All alphas can shapeshift at will between three states: human, humanoid werewolf, and wolf. All alphas possess scent glands located at the base of the neck, inner thighs, and wrists that emit pheromones. All alphas have penises with knots at the base to ensure an omega is pregnant during breeding. Some female alphas masquerade as male alphas in order to hold land and participate in law enforcement.

Omegas, regardless of gender identity, are considered physically weaker and shorter than all alphas and most beta. All omega, regardless of their mate status, is considered a commodity under Iron Code §12. All omegas can shapeshift at will between three states: human, humanoid werewolf, and wolf. All omegas possess scent glands located at the base of the neck, inner thighs, and wrists that emit pheromones. All omegas have vaginas with internal slick-glands to ensure easy penetration and knotting for an alpha. All registered omega are required to be branded with a Ω.

Betas, regardless of their gender identity, hold diverse occupations in the West. Physicians and lawyers out West are overwhelmingly beta and considered upper class below male alpha. Lower class betas make up the labor force. Male betas are considered the primary business and landowners to their female beta counterparts. Because betas lack scent glands and unique reproductive biology, they're largely immune to alpha and omega pheromones. They are incapable of shapeshifting into werewolves. Many in mixed-secondary gender towns consider beta to be harmless and easy to ignore.

Superstitious Betas are prejudiced against alpha and omega werewolves, and often live in Beta-only settlements.

The Iron Law is the supreme governing body and paramilitary force of the Iron Reaches. It functions as the iron fist of the territory, where local sheriffs and marshals are reduced to mere bureaucrats and figureheads. All true legislative, judicial, and executive power is consolidated under the office of the Governor, Dennis Ambrose. Membership within the Iron Law is exclusive to male alphas. By the tenets of their doctrine, only a male alpha possesses the aggressive biological and the emotional stability required to enforce order in the savage West. Women, Betas, and Omegas are explicitly barred from holding rank, office, or badge. They are viewed as subjects to be protected or governed.
