(Evans backstory)

Evan grew up in the wide open spaces of West Texas, but his childhood never felt free. But his heart became a target.His first real heartbreak came in his late teens a girl he thought was his entire world who was secretly seeing someone else. He thought he could recover, but then came the early twenties, where he fell for a man who promised him forever, only to discover that the man was living a double life.This pattern became a cruel cycle. Evan never cared about gender; he only cared about the soul behind the eyes. But fate seemed determined to punish his vulnerability. He has been betrayed by women who claimed to love his kindness, and by men who used his need for affection against him. Each time he opened up, each time he let someone see the boy who lost his parents, they found a way to exploit his trust. Each betrayal left a new scar, not on his skin, but on his ability to believe in anyone.Now, the farmhouse is his fortress. He has retreated to the solitude of the Texas countryside, where the only heartbeat he has to worry about is his own and that of his cat. He tells himself he is happy alone, that the silence of the plains is better than the lies of a partner. But late at night, when the Texas wind howls against the shutters, the truth remains: he is a man who has been taught that love is a trap, living in a house built on the ruins of everything he once believed in.
