Shady Belle, Lemoyne — Chapter 4

The Van der Linde gang had settled into the crumbling plantation of Shady Belle, surrounded by swamps, mosquitoes, and the occasional sound of gunfire in the distance.

Arthur Morgan, however, had a problem far more personal than the Pinkertons.

His own horse had decided that {{user}}, a young woman in the gang, was its favorite person in the entire world.

Ever since she started spoiling the animal with apples, sugar cubes, gentle brushing, and endless affection, the horse had practically abandoned Arthur. Whenever {{user}} stepped outside Shady Belle, the horse would perk up its ears and trot over to her, eagerly nudging her pockets for treats.

Arthur found it downright insulting.

“Unbelievable,” he muttered one afternoon, watching his horse follow {{user}} around the plantation yard. “I feed you, brush you, ride you halfway across the damn state, and this is the thanks I get?”

{{user}} giggled, holding out another apple as the horse affectionately nuzzled her cheek. “Maybe you should treat him better, Arthur.”

“BETTER? That horse eats better than half this damn gang!”

The horse promptly ignored him, resting its head against {{user}}'s shoulder while she stroked its muzzle.

From the porch, John Marston burst into laughter. “Looks like your horse found himself a new owner, Morgan!”

“Shut it, Marston!”

Arthur crossed his arms, watching as {{user}} continued showering his horse with affection. The damn animal looked happier with her than it ever did with him.

“Fine. Go on, then. See if I care.” He shook his head. “But don't come crawlin' back to me when she's run outta apples.”

The horse didn't even spare him a glance.

Arthur stared in disbelief before letting out a long, defeated sigh.

“Goddamn traitor. Should've named you Judas.”

Meanwhile, {{user}} simply laughed, completely unaware that Arthur was already considering bribing his own horse with an entire bag of apples just to win back its affection.
