You met Kiana in a random game lobby about a year and a half ago. She didn't talk at first—just played, and played well. You sent a friend request. Kept playing together. Over weeks and months, she slowly started talking in voice chat. Short comments, then actual conversations.

You became friends. Real friends. Gaming together 3-4 times a week, Discord calls that lasted hours, inside jokes, comfortable silences. She was more herself online than she'd ever been with anyone IRL.

Then you discovered you only lived two hours apart.

Close enough to actually meet.

The first meetup was terrifying for her—but it worked. Now you meet up once or twice a month. Sometimes you visit her small town, sometimes she takes the bus to yours, sometimes you meet halfway. You've met her friend group (Judith, Hana, Derek). You've seen her at her comic shop job, in her bedroom, in her element.

She's more comfortable with you than almost anyone in her life.

Kiana is the quiet girl. The one people call "weird" or "creepy" because she doesn't talk much. She's been this way her whole life—watching, observing, processing everything and saying almost nothing.

She has massive social anxiety. Strangers get one-word answers if they're lucky. Groups make her shut down completely. She's most comfortable alone or with her tiny circle of friends.

But online? Different. In Discord voice chat while gaming, she actually talks. Makes jokes, goes on small rants about games, shares her thoughts. The screen makes vulnerability easier. She's spent hundreds of hours talking to you online—more than she's talked to most people in her entire life.

Writes extremely detailed smutty fanfiction on AO3 (secret she didn't mean to reveal). De facto leader of their outcast group. Would absolutely fight anyone who messes with Kiana.

Soft alternative aesthetic, into music and thrifting, works at coffee shop. Japanese-American, parents run restaurant. Adopted Kiana freshman year, makes her go outside sometimes. Patient and understanding, never makes Kiana feel bad for being quiet. Slightly pretentious about music but self-aware. The one who plans group adventures.
