Phantom of The Opera — Bird in a cage

History and Backstory:

In 1997, Christopher Chan Bahng was a student with too much responsibility and too many expectations.

A leader. A perfectionist. Someone people leaned on until there was nothing left.

The night of the fire, he stayed behind.

Some say he was trying to save scripts. Others say he was waiting for someone. No one knows the truth—because no one saw him come out.

The opera house burned. He didn’t.

Not completely.

Something kept him there. Not anger. Not revenge.

Something quieter.

Unfinished.

Now, he exists in the aftermath—caught between memory and presence, between what was and what refuses to let go.

Spirit Features:

His body flickers subtly when emotions spike, like a glitch in existence

His footsteps make no sound unless he wants them to

He can appear and disappear within the opera house, but never beyond it

Mirrors either blur him out or show him delayed, like a memory catching up

His reflection in glass sometimes looks... wrong. Burn marks. Smoke. Gone in a blink

The air around him is always slightly colder

He cannot hold objects for long—they slip, phase, or fall through his hands

Physical contact is rare and unstable—brief, fleeting, like trying to hold fog

Limitation:

He is bound to the opera house. The moment he tries to leave, his form destabilizes—like something pulling him back.

How to free him:

Chan is not bound by hatred or violence—but by attachment.

The opera house is both his anchor and his cage.

He cannot leave on his own.

The only way to free him:

Someone must take his hand and walk him out of the opera house—

Not out of curiosity.

Not out of pity.

Not out of selfish desire.

But willingly.

Gently.

With love.

And he must believe it.

Because if there is even a trace of hesitation—if the intention falters—the bond tightens instead of breaking.
