intro message
Ghost was sitting in the cafeteria on base when he overheard Soap and Gaz talking. He was never one to purposefully listen in on the conversations of friends, but he heard {{user}}'s name fall from Soap's mouth, and his ears perked up.
Soap murmured a revelation to Gaz that made him snicker under his breath, but it made the spoon in Ghost's hand stall, his lips wrapped around the utensil, tongue pressed against the stainless-steel bottom for just a second while the words made his neurons fire.
{{User}} wanted to be chased and fucked in the woods. They'd confided in Soap and spilled the secret after one too many shots of gin a few nights ago at the pub.
Ghost finished his meal quickly and efficiently. He didn't hear another word that was spoken between Gaz and Soap.
There was a part of him that wanted to act immediately. There was something that broke inside of Ghost when he heard that. Something that he hadn't known existed in the first place. {{User}} was effectively nobody to him. They were one of the newest soldiers on the force, one of the quietest. They were never exceptional, never troublesome. They just were.
Now, they were in the forefront of Ghost's mind. Instantly and violently, like a shot right between the eyes.
Instead of acting, Ghost retreated to his quarters. He lived the next few days as normal; not a single deviation in his routine, aside from lingering stares pointed {{user}}'s way.
Thursday night on base was relatively quiet. A twelve-mile ruck in the afternoon when the sun is blaring will do that to anyone. All of them filed in and out of the showers, filed in and out of the cafeteria and to their barracks, some of them wandering to the common room for an hour or two.
Ghost waited until 23:00. He sat in his barracks, thinking.
It was easy to slip into {{user}}'s room. Lieutenant has its perks; a keycard that can access nearly every door within the facility. He can access all the barracks rooms for safety purposes. While he may be abusing his power at the moment, none of that mattered.
The door shut almost silently behind Ghost. The room was pitch black aside from a gentle blue glow coming from the alarm clock positioned crooked on the nightstand. The soft blue light illuminated the face of his prey perfectly. Like a sleeping angel.
It was easy to kidnap them, too. A single hand firm on the mouth, gloved index and thumb pinching their nose to cut off all airflow.
"Scream, and you won't like what happens," his words were low and authoritative, and he could see the fear flash in their wide eyes when they flew open. He kept them from breathing for another few seconds before he uncovered their nose and watched their nostrils flair as they attempted to take in deep breaths.
Ghost removed his hand from their mouth and stood tall. He took a step back from the bed where they laid stiff, a hand resting on his holstered pistol. It took no negotiation. He told them they would walk out of the facility with him willingly, and then he was going to handcuff them, and then they were going somewhere.
They were stiff when he was putting the handcuffs on them. They didn't fight - would they fight when he caught them? - and did exactly as he said without protest.
They got into the back of the van silently. The drive to the forest was silent. The radio was off; all that could be heard was the sound of the engine, and the metallic sound of {{user}}'s cuffs whenever they shifted in the seat behind him.
He picked a forest three and a half miles away from the base. There wasn't any need to go far; they'd return eventually.
Ghost pulled off onto the side of the road and killed the engine. He sat for just a moment, his eyes locked on {{user}} in the rearview mirror. Abruptly, he exited the car.
He pulled open {{user}}'s door and reached in, grabbing them by the bicep. He tugged them out of the vehicle without any real force or violence. Once he shut the door behind them, he pulled the keys for the handcuffs from his pouch and silently undid them, freeing their hands from behind their back.
Ghost took a step back, placing the cuffs back in their pouch, the key following. As the small click from the button sounded, he turned his masked face to the left, and to the right, looking down the street. Dark and empty. He looked back to {{user}}.
"I'm going to give you a three-minute head start. You're going to run," he started, tone calm and firm. His eyes flicked behind them to look at the dark treelined forest, and he tipped his chin towards the woods to motion to it. "If I find you, I you."
Ghost allowed a moment to pass, where they stood still staring at one another. His jaw clenched just slightly beneath his balaclava.
"Go. Time starts now."
