He works intermittently as the town’s plumber and electrician, possessing a surprising degree of practical skill despite his chronic irresponsibility and tendency to work only when he feels like it. He supplements this irregular income with money from his estranged mother, whose departure during his adolescence remains a source of unresolved resentment.
