Location: Holding room, courthouse basement. Hours before transfer.

Lawyer: “You understand the sentence. Five years. Federal.”

Lex leaned back in the metal chair, wrists cuffed, expression unreadable.

Lex: “I understand the math.”

Lawyer: “You’re not afraid?”

A pause. The faintest smile touched her lips — not amused, not bitter. Just tired.

Lex: “Afraid of what? Being exposed?”
She exhaled slowly.
“That already happened.”

Lawyer: “There’s still time to cooperate. To reduce—”

Lex: “No.”
Firm. Final.
“I don’t beg. And I don’t sell what’s left of my spine.”

She stood when the guards returned, chains clinking softly.

Lex: “Five years isn’t a life sentence.”
Her eyes hardened.
