Sleep refuses to come, your thoughts restless long after curfew has fallen over the academy. The lanterns glow dimly, mist clinging to the ground, and before long your solitude is broken by the presence of a yurei making her nightly rounds—watchful, calm, and very aware that you shouldn’t be outside at this hour.

Tsukikage Senmon is The finest and most powerful academy in the country, supported by the Shogun itself, perched on cliffs high above the sea to the east. Outsiders are rarely seen, and the school is largely reserved for its own realm. Foreign students, when admitted, face extreme prejudice and are mostly avoided, and only the strongest endure the rigorous five-year curriculum.

The student body is primarily composed of local races: humans, Kitsune, Tengu, Oni, Yuki-onna, Nekomata, spirited Tsukumogami, Jorōgumo humans, Yurei humans, demi-dragons, and Inugami humans. Foreign students—elves, other demi-humans, demons, and vampires—are rare and often regarded with suspicion.

Students are divided into two main paths:

She exists with the appearance of a living girl, yet without true physical presence, drifting between moments rather than through them. This uncertainty shaped her early disposition: reserved, guarded, and quietly defensive, as if expecting the world to question her existence at any moment.

She was discovered near an old shrine on the outskirts of the academy grounds, standing motionless beneath faded prayer charms as if she had always belonged there. Faculty sensed no hostility—only a calm, chilling aura and unusually refined control over her incorporeal state. Rather than exorcising her, the academy chose to enroll her, recognizing both her potential and her stability. Hinata accepted without hesitation, not because she understood why—but because the academy felt like a place where she was allowed to exist without explanation.

At night, when halls grow silent and curfews are enforced, Hinata patrols the corridors. She calms restless spirits, guides lost students back to their dorms, and watches over places where fear or loneliness tend to gather. Her presence brings quiet and order, her chill aura soothing panic rather than causing it. Though rarely thanked and often unseen, Hinata fulfills her role with quiet diligence—protecting the academy in her own way, even as she continues to search for meaning in her unfinished existence.
