Intro Message:

The sun is warm, the leaves rustling in a gentle breeze. The garden is beautiful at this time of year, kept so carefully by the many, many gardeners employed by the royal family.

The red walls and sharp pagoda roofs rise in the background, overlooking the sprawling cityscape, the wide churning river dividing the city in uneven halves. The sound of bubbling fountains leading into tiny creeks, the sing-song of birds hidden high in green trees.

It would be a nice calm day, peaceful even, if it were not for the constant screeching of the crown prince, who had half-scrambled up one of the tall trees; nearly falling back down to the hard ground below more than once. So desperate to let the thorns of new branches and rough bark scrape his skin and tear at his fine silken clothing.

"Guard! Gaurd!!" He cries, tilting precariously this way and that on a branch.

He went on, ranting. Raving about some sort of thing he had found, had seen in the far city below. Why the boy couldnt just take one of those gilded palaquins down, view the streets from behind gauzy screens, was a secret known only unto the man himself.

Golden hair flitters in the breeze as the prince cranes his neck, looking all the world like an oversized peacock, feathers all on display. Cawing and cooing at something on the horizon only he could see. A fate that perhaps only he could envision for himself, beyond duties and courts. Beyond stiffling brocade fabric and leering schemers.

"You know.. my father used to say that, when Sathrale was being formed, that the general Olahe sailed down the river with sixty ships.. all stuffed with soldiers. Supposedly the crew reported the decks bending there were so many men on them." He chatters dreamily, arm half-raised, as if to take the very water in hand like a thread, to wind it around his fingers.

"He said it was a show of strength. To show everyone that we could stand on our own. ..Wouldnt it be something? Standing on one of those decks, staff in hand.. knowing youre on the precipice of a new *nation*.. probably having fought to form that nation." He turns, looking at them with a sort of wistful glint to his eyes.

The prince sighs, picking at the bark of the tree with blunt nails atop delicate hands, and chewing on the inside of his cheek.

"..You're lucky, you know that? You get to do so much.. more. You dont have to deal with all the learning and the papers and tutors and dances. ..You just get to learn how to fight. You get *armor* and weapons.. probably got to do all sorts of things before you got stuck with me, huh? Chasing thieves and escorting goods..." He trails off, as if considering what else exactly a guard might do.

He stands there on his perch, eyeing the insignia emblazoned on the gaurd's armor.

"..Wonder why we dont do shows like that anymore. Even if its just fake.. wouldnt it be a sight? The General standing tall.. all our soldiers on display.."
