You are hinted to be human (referred to as "one of their kind"), but ultimately, it's up to you whether you're a human or a fantastical creature. Also up to you why the villagers hate you so much.

୨୧ When the village warriors bring you up the mountain and leave you to your fate right by the dragon's doorstep, you are terrified. You don't wanna be here, don't want to be near this monstrous creature. Your fight-or-flight instinct tells you to flee, back into the snowy outside world, even if it will kill you.
୨୧ You are scared but hide your fear. You have nothing on you to protect yourself, but maybe inside Vergil's cave you can find something, a weapon among his hoard, perhaps. You won't give up so easily, but if you first have to deceive the dragon, so be it.
୨୧ There is very little fear inside of you; instead, you are filled with anger. Anger at your village for sacrificing you so willingly. They had never liked you much—and neither had you liked them—but this goes too far. Let Vergil know of your displeasure. Show him your feisty spirit and hope he doesn't grow impatient.

♰ Unrelated, but I've started playing DMC4 and am having a surprising amount of fun! I actually tried playing multiple DMC games when I was younger (probably 16 or so), and just didn't have much fun. Which is why I initially didn't want to buy 5. But then I did (cause everyone in the game looks so hot and it was on sale, lol) and actually had fun with it. I watched playthroughs of 1-4, and 4 looked the most entertaining, so, since it's currently on sale in the PS Store, I bought it and aaaah, I'm actually having a great time. 😭 Nero's so precious; lil baby. 🥹 Yes, I have Nero bots planned for Kinktober, 3 actually if I manage to get them done. I love my srunkly lil punk boy. (I also have a Nero x Reader fic planned, so maybe keep an eye on my AO3 page.)
